Board-trustee

Board and Trustee appointments

Governing our public service and ensuring the best delivery possible for Islanders through robust assurance.

Public service is just that; serving our Islanders in the best way possible, utilising resources well, making sound decisions and complying with regulation and legislation.

And we need people to give our Islanders comfort that this is happening. To allow this, the public service has a number of boards that ensure sound governance and control exists over all areas of public service, and that the direction of travel is aligned with the Common Strategic Policy.

These boards span from the Risk and Audit Committee, Fiscal Policy Panel, Health and Care Jersey Advisory Board, Jersey Care Commission, Jersey Appointments Commission and the Jersey Police Authority.

The majority of our boards require a commitment of approximately one day a month and offer the chance for people to use their skills, knowledge and experience, often from outside public service, to ensure assurance is given to Islanders.

About the Role:

Closing date: Thursday 22 October 2026

Committee Member (Representative of Palliative Care / End-of-Life Care Services)
Assisted Dying Assurance and Delivery Committee
Government of Jersey, Channel Islands

The Assisted Dying Assurance and Delivery Committee has been established under Jersey's new Assisted Dying Law to oversee the safe implementation and ongoing assurance of the Assisted Dying Service. The Committee will play a critical role in supporting the development of governance frameworks, professional standards, workforce arrangements and operational systems while providing independent advice and assurance to the Minister for Health and Social Services. As part of this work, we are seeking a Committee Member to represent services that provide palliative care and end-of-life care across Jersey.

What is involved with the role

Working closely with the Chair and fellow Committee Members, you will bring professional expertise and insight from the delivery, leadership or assurance of palliative and end-of-life care services. You will help ensure the Committee understands the practical implications of introducing assisted dying alongside existing care pathways and support effective collaboration across health and care providers. Your contribution will inform discussions relating to governance, professional practice, clinical assurance, workforce development and service delivery, helping to ensure the Assisted Dying Service operates safely, effectively and in accordance with the law.

What we are looking for

We are seeking an individual with proven experience operating at Board, Committee or senior leadership level within a healthcare, hospice, charitable or similarly regulated environment. You will bring a strong understanding of clinical and corporate governance, safeguarding, quality assurance and the challenges associated with delivering high-quality palliative and end-of-life care services. Comfortable navigating complex and often contentious issues, you will be able to balance professional expertise with independent judgement and work constructively with colleagues from a range of backgrounds and perspectives. You will be committed to building trust, fostering collaboration and ensuring that the Assisted Dying Service complements, rather than replaces, the vital role of palliative and end-of-life care across the Island.

We welcome applications from a wide range of individuals, to represent diverse viewpoints and communities – including people who may have reservations about the legislation.

About the Role:

Closing date: Thursday 22 October 2026

+

Committee Member (Patient Representative)
Assisted Dying Assurance and Delivery Committee
Government of Jersey, Channel Islands

The Assisted Dying Assurance and Delivery Committee will play a central role in overseeing the introduction and ongoing delivery of Jersey's new Assisted Dying Service. Established under the Assisted Dying Law, the Committee will provide independent oversight, advice and assurance to the Minister for Health and Social Services, ensuring the service is delivered safely, ethically and in full accordance with the law. As Jersey prepares for implementation of this significant new service, we are seeking a Patient Representative to bring an informed community and lived experience perspective to the Committee's work.

What is involved with the role

As a Committee Member, you will work alongside the Chair and fellow members to help assure the Minister that the Assisted Dying Service delivers safe, effective, person-centred and compassionate care. You will bring personal experience of palliative or end-of-life care, either as someone who has received support themselves or through supporting a family member or loved one. Your contribution will help ensure the voices of patients, relatives, carers and the wider community are reflected in decision making, policy development and service oversight. You will play a key role in ensuring the Committee understands the diverse views held across Jersey, including those of people who both support and oppose assisted dying, and that these perspectives are considered thoughtfully and respectfully.

What we are looking for

We are looking for an individual with the ability to participate confidently in Committee discussions, sharing views, experiences and insights in a constructive manner, and having a genuine commitment to public service. You will be able to engage with a broad range of stakeholders and bring independent judgement to complex and sometimes sensitive discussions. You will have an appreciation of the challenges faced by patients and families navigating palliative and end-of-life services and a commitment to ensuring dignity, safeguarding and patient choice remain at the forefront of service delivery. Above all, you will be passionate about ensuring Islanders' voices are heard and that public confidence is maintained throughout the implementation of this landmark legislation.

Chief Pharmacist

About the Role:

Closing date: Sunday 25 October 2026

+

The Chief Pharmacist is a high-profile, Island-wide role providing strategic and professional leadership and fulfilling statutory functions for pharmacists across Jersey, as well as operational leadership for pharmacy services at Health & Care Jersey (HCJ). HCJ is at a pivotal stage of its development with ambitious plans for service transformation, including preparation for Jersey's new hospital.

The Pharmacy department structure too is at a significant development milestone, the department has recently been reviewed, with a particular focus on strengthening senior leadership capacity. The incoming Chief Pharmacist will have a significant impact, central to shaping the ongoing operating model. As the professional pharmacy leader for Jersey, the post-holder will have significant strategic influence beyond hospital services. This includes supporting and shaping the Island's medicines legislation and regulatory framework, including the Misuse of Drugs, Medicines, and Pharmacy and Poisons (Jersey) Laws. The Chief Pharmacist will also develop strong partnerships with organisations such as the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA), the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA), and counterparts across other jurisdictions, ensuring Jersey remains aligned with emerging best practice and national developments.

A key aspect of the role is the opportunity to strengthen collaboration across primary care, community pharmacy, and secondary care. The Chief Pharmacist will lead Jersey's medicines optimisation agenda, helping to improve medicines choice and prescribing practice across the whole healthcare system. Working closely with clinicians, primary care providers, and community pharmacists, the post-holder will support initiatives that keep people well, promote care closer to home, and reduce avoidable hospital admissions. The role also presents opportunities to support the continued development of pharmacist independent prescribing within community and primary care settings.

Jersey's self-contained healthcare system offers a unique and rewarding leadership opportunity. Unlike many larger healthcare systems, the HCJ Pharmacy team simultaneously provides clinical pharmacy services, medicines governance and regulatory functions for the Island, and robust financial stewardship of medicines expenditure and medicines-related therapies. This breadth of responsibility provides an exceptional opportunity to shape policy, practice, and outcomes across an entire healthcare system.

Jersey's unique healthcare environment offers a rare opportunity to influence decision-making at the highest levels and make a visible impact across the whole health and care system. Candidates with significant experience operating at system level within NHS Integrated Care Boards, Health Boards, or similarly complex healthcare environments will be particularly well placed to succeed in this role.
