The Office of the Lieutenant-Governor provides all executive and administrative functions for the Lieutenant-Governor to undertake his role and responsibilities.

The Lieutenant-Governor fulfils an important role as His Majesty's personal representative and impartial adviser in Jersey and is the official channel of communication between His Majesty’s Government and the Island Authorities. The appointment is made by The King on the recommendation of the Lord Chancellor and Secretary of State for Justice on the recommendation of the insular authorities. The appointment involves considerable representational, ceremonial and social commitments.

The Lieutenant-Governor is expected to play a full and active part in the social and charitable affairs of the Island and in promoting community activity. The Lieutenant-Governor has a number of executive responsibilities in relation to British Citizenship and the issuing of passports. Other functions involve chairing the Honours and Awards Committee, hosting Royal, Ambassadorial and VIP visits and representing The King on ceremonial occasions.
