The Ministry for External Relations works to build and grow Jersey’s relationships with other jurisdictions, fostering meaningful connections that protect and promote understanding of our Island’s unique identity, and help to increase our influence on the global stage. Our work spans constitutional, political, economic, cultural, and environmental matters, all with a shared goal - to raise Jersey’s profile positively, increase our Island's visibility, and create opportunities for collaboration and cooperation with key partners around the world.

In joining our team, you will work with a range external stakeholders to help safeguard and advance Jersey’s interests through international engagement. You will liaise closely with colleagues across the Government of Jersey to ensure our interests are understood and represented on a global stage, and that we engage and influence effectively on issues of policy and regulation to achieve the best outcomes for our Island.
You will work to protect and advance Jersey’s constitutional, domestic and fiscal autonomy, and help to ensure that we are engaged in key areas of discussions such as climate action and sustainability, working to ensure that Jersey is viewed as a valued voice and partner on issues of global challenge and opportunity. Here, you’ll be part of an extraordinary mission, working alongside dedicated professionals to help make a real impact in Jersey and beyond.

UK Affairs
Strengthening Jersey's connections in the UK
The UK Affairs team nurtures Jersey’s relationships across the UK’s political, diplomatic, business, and cultural landscapes. We facilitate meaningful engagement between Jersey Ministers and UK Parliamentarians, ensuring Jersey’s voice is heard and respected.
From managing ties with the UK Ministry of Justice - our key link to Whitehall - to representing Jersey at UK party conferences, the team safeguards Jersey’s interests and promotes our identity on the national stage.

Europe and European Relations
Expanding our influence and connections in Brussels and across Europe
Through our overseas offices in Brussels and Caen, and through the work of our European Relations team, we will continue to develop and grow Jersey’s profile and engagement with the European Union institutions (European Commission, Council, Parliament) as well as our bilateral relationships with Member States and European capitals.
We ensure Jersey’s constitutional relationship with the UK is understood, and that our wide-ranging and historical linkages and contribution to Europe are respected and valued. Engagement with France, our closest neighbour and a vital partner, is a key priority for the team.

Global Relations
Expanding Jersey’s connections worldwide
Our Global Relations team is dedicated to building Jersey’s presence across four key regions: the Americas, Sub-Saharan Africa, the Middle East and North Africa, and Asia. By fostering political, commercial, cultural, and educational partnerships, we strengthen Jersey’s connections and create new opportunities for collaboration.
Through our work, we aim to raise Jersey’s international profile, forge meaningful alliances, and promote Jersey as a valued partner globally.

International Trade Unit
Representing Jersey in global trade
The International Trade Unit (ITU) leads on all matters of international trade related to the UK’s trade arrangements, ensuring Jersey’s interests are upheld in a rapidly evolving global market. We manage Jersey’s commitments and obligations within the UK’s World Trade Organization (WTO) membership, and through Free Trade Agreements (FTAs) negotiated by the UK with countries around the world.
Working closely with UK Government departments, particularly the Department for International Trade, our International Trade Unit ensures that Jersey’s unique interests are represented and integrated into international trade frameworks and negotiations.

Financial Sanctions Implementation Unit
Upholding Jersey’s global responsibilities
The International Compliance and Financial Sanctions Implementation Unit (FSIU) plays a critical role in upholding Jersey’s commitment to international compliance and sanctions obligations, reinforcing our reputation as a responsible global actor.
Our Financial Sanctions Implementation Unit coordinates sanctions under UN Security Council Resolutions and UK autonomous measures, supporting the Minister in managing legislation, compliance, licensing, and sanctions guidance.

Our offices
