Our teams

Operations and Transport+

Road markings aren’t the only way our team makes its mark on our Island. We keep Jersey moving and its spaces thriving. From managing our open spaces, gardens, road systems, public amenities, and sporting venues, to maintaining waste, sewerage, and recycling facilities, our work is essential. We manage public transport and car parking services, perform traffic management, and oversee the Island’s vehicle and driving standards, as well as procuring and maintaining our Jersey Public Service vehicles.

We enhance life in Jersey, keeping Islanders connected and our Island looking beautiful.

Property+

Our team acts as the steward of Jersey’s public estate, managing the strategic oversight, maintenance, and development of government-owned land and buildings. The Estates area oversees leases to maximize asset use, while the Maintenance area ensures safety, compliance, and upkeep. Development is led by the Strategy and Project Delivery areas, with the Architectural Design Team, Project Managers, and Quality Inspectors collaborating to shape the Island’s future through innovative planning and major government projects. This work is further supported by Energy Efficiency and Mapping Teams, driving innovation and sustainable procurement.

Regulation+

Protecting Islanders and safeguarding standards is at the core of our team’s work. We deliver socially responsible regulations across areas such as planning and building, trading standards, licencing, food safety, water quality and plant health. We also lead on noise, waste and pollution prevention. Our efforts ensure fairness, safety, and compliance across the Island.

We ensure Jersey remains a safe, healthy, and enjoyable place to live, work, and thrive.

Natural Environment+

The primary focus of our Natural Environment Directorate has become the monitoring, understanding, public engagement, management, protection and enhancement of our natural environment to support the sustainable wellbeing of Islanders. Our diverse and unique Island requires diverse and unique people covering a broad range of scientific disciplines to keep our 6 teams working. Our officers cover climate change engagement, weather forecasting and climatology at Jersey Met, and invasive species and crop protection in our Biosecurity team.

We look after the Island’s wild spaces and protect our biodiversity through our Land Resource Management team who also monitoring the Island’s water and air quality. Our Veterinary and Animal Welfare team protect our Island’s animals against incoming diseases and ensure a high standard of animal welfare while our Marine Resources team carry out research to determine the health of our marine stocks while also enforcing our fisheries protection legislation.

Head Office+

The role of our Head of Office is to provide a wide range of corporate services support to all four directorates in the department: Operations and Transport, Natural Environment, Regulation, and Property. This ensures our people can work at their best.

This includes coordinating governance, driving strategic and business planning, managing communications and assisting with health and safety.

The services delivered by our Head Office team are critical to ensure the delivery of the department’s statutory services. The team is also pivotal in providing expertise and support to prioritise the customer experience of Islanders, spanning across the breadth of our professional service areas.

The Head Office team also lead on I&E business change projects and the delivery of our Strategic Workforce Plan. The department continues to prioritise workforce planning and strives for high levels of employee engagement. This in turn makes I&E a great place to work and ensures the continuity of services needed, so that I&E can ‘keep the Island running’ and provide consistently high-quality services for Islanders.
