Job Overview
We are seeking to recruit a compassionate, dedicated and enthusiastic individual to join our Patient Transport Service, the non-emergency service within the States of Jersey Ambulance Service.
The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering safe, effective and reliable transportation of clients from their own home address to any given destination, including Hospital sites, Nursing Homes, Clinics, Day Centres, Hospice. This role requires excellent interpersonal and driving skills.

Job Purpose
To provide an efficient transport service for clients meeting the eligibility criteria, who may require assistance in walking, or be required to be transported in a wheelchair or stretcher. Utilising specialised vehicles and equipment so that this can be carried out in a safe and comfortable manner.
Job Specific Outcomes 1 of 2
1. Safely transporting patients to and from medical appointments, hospital admissions/discharges, Day Centres and the Airport for onward treatment.
2. Assisting patients with mobility issues, including helping them onto and off vehicles.
3. Providing compassionate care and support to patients throughout their journey.
4. Assisting with the loading and unloading of medical equipment and patients, ensuring safety at all times.
5. Observation of patients at all times.
6. To be trained to a FREC2 qualification in order to provide assistance to any patients who may require medical intervention, working with Emergency & Urgent Care colleagues to provide this service.
7. Cleaning, Maintenance and upkeep of the vehicles and equipment.
8. Adhering to safety protocols and infection control procedures
9. Reporting of any accidents or incidents following the correct process, using our Datix system or completing insurance forms where appropriate.
10. Provide support to our Emergency & Urgent Care (Frontline) service when appropriate, including in the event of Major Incidents, transporting casualties/displaced people to agreed locations.
11. Maintaining a high standard of professionalism, communication, and customer service.
Qualifications
We are looking for individuals who are compassionate, caring, and able to work well under pressure. The ideal candidate will possess the following skills and attributes:
- A strong desire to help and care for others.
- Excellent communication skills, both with patients and team members.
- The ability to remain calm and professional in difficult or emergency situations.
- The ability to lift and move patients safely, with the appropriate training and support.
- A full, clean driving license with category C1.
- A commitment to maintaining the highest standards of infection control & safety.
Knowledge
- Previous experience in a healthcare or care environment is beneficial, but not essential.
- A good knowledge of Jersey's roads
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- The ability to adapt to a situation for the best outcome
General skills / attributes
Transportation of clients is intensive work, candidates must be physically fit to be suitable for this role.
