Job Overview
Rouge Bouillon School are looking for an Assistant Caretaker with a strong practical skillset to support the caretaker to carry out the maintenance of the building and grounds of a large town primary school.
The ideal candidate will be organised and self-motivated, enjoy interacting with children and a large staff and work well either on their own or alongside the Caretaker.
Candidates should have a full driving licence. There may be the possibility for the successful candidate to rent accommodation on-site in a newly renovated school cottage should they choose (subject to availability).

Job Purpose
To ensure the security, care and cleanliness of the school and facilities. To carry out general maintenance repairs. This includes fabrication of required resources, moderate electrical & plumbing repairs and carpentry work with minor building work Responsible for maintaining the school grounds under the direction of the site manager.
Statutory Responsibilities
Active engagement, participation and compliance with any other statutory responsibilities applicable to the role, as amended from time to time.
Job Specific Outcomes
To manage the security, care and cleanliness of the school. To include general ground maintenance on a daily basis. Assist with the operation of Building Management System.
Moderate electric and plumbing repairs (including changing light bulbs/ fuses, maintain hoovers. repairing taps, unblocking toilets). Carpentry works (from design to completion). Minor building and construction work.
Painting and decorating. Watering plants on site and maintaining planted areas. Supervision and deployment of staff and oversight of contractors and tradesmen. Deputising for Caretaker in their absence (shift work/holidays/sickness in conjunction with caretaker) General portage duties, including packing and unpacking of parcels and crates, moving furniture and equipment in, out and around the school premises, including external advents around the island.
Stock control/ taking of consumables, chemicals and materials, and order when necessary.
Work shifts and unsociable hours (can be called into work in the event of an emergency). Plan work schedules daily/ weekly/ monthly/ annual in conjunction with the Caretaker for self and cleaners. Assist with carpark duties to ensure safe access and exit from the school. Carry out Fire Marshall duties across the school.
