Job Overview

The Business Support Officer – Attendance will ensure that attendance and punctuality data is accurately recorded on schools systems allowing data to be assessed in terms of school development.

 

You will work collaboratively with the Student Support Team to help pupils reach their full academic potential by fostering a positive culture of attendance and punctuality throughout the school community.

What will be expected of you

You will be responsible for ensuring accurate and complete student attendance records throughout the school day, with particular focus on morning and afternoon registration. Duties include monitoring and updating registers, following first-day contact procedures, investigating and resolving unexplained absences, and ensuring attendance records are correctly coded and maintained.

The role involves producing daily and termly attendance reports and registers, analysing attendance patterns, and sharing key information with senior leaders, pastoral staff, safeguarding teams, education welfare services, and parents/carers. It also includes supporting attendance improvement initiatives, processing leave requests, maintaining attendance data, updating records for school activities and events, and ensuring compliance with school attendance policies and safeguarding requirements. Additionally, the postholder works closely with staff across the school to promote attendance, provides register completion reminders where necessary, and keeps up to date with relevant MIS and software training.
