Job Purpose

To ensure the care and safety of the premises and to carry out minor maintenance, repair and construction.

To maintain the health and safety of the Le Quesne Barracks, report on any fault and act upon them.

Liaise with all tradesmen and contractors.

Job Specific Outcomes

  • Responsible for the health and safety of the Le Quesne Barracks including all buildings and grounds.
  • Carry out maintenance where applicable and within limits of qualification and competency.
  • To be responsible for the security arrangements of Le Quesne Barracks and to maintain security systems.
  • Report and act upon any damage or faults in consultation with Jersey Property Holdings.
  • Repair or replace damaged or old items of furniture.
  • Call out and liaise with tradesmen and contractors.
  • Assist Jersey Field Squadron staff in any reasonable requests.
  • Develop and maintain records of damage and repairs.
  • Carry out driving duties as required.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Basic education (e.g., GCSEs or equivalent).
  • Valid driving licence (due to driving duties).

Desirable

  • Relevant vocational qualifications (e.g., NVQ in Facilities Management, Health & Safety, or Building Maintenance).
  • First Aid certification.

Knowledge

Essential

  • Understanding of health and safety regulations.
  • Awareness of basic building maintenance and repair procedures.
  • Knowledge of security systems and protocols.

Desirable

  • Familiarity with record-keeping and reporting procedures.
  • Knowledge of working with contractors and tradespeople.

Technical Work Based Skills

Essential

  • Ability to carry out minor maintenance, repairs, and construction.
  • Basic carpentry, plumbing, or electrical repair skills.
  • Ability to identify and report faults.
  • Competence in using tools and maintenance equipment.

Desirable

  • Skills in maintaining and updating maintenance logs or digital records.
  • Experience with security system maintenance or monitoring.

  • Good communication skills (for liaising with contractors and staff).
  • Reliability and trustworthiness (due to security responsibilities).
  • Ability to work independently and take initiative.
  • Physical fitness (due to manual tasks and mobility around the premises).

Experience

Essential

  • Previous experience in a caretaking, facilities, or maintenance role.
  • Experience in ensuring site safety and security.

Desirable

  • Experience working in a military or government facility.
  • Experience coordinating with external contractors or tradespeople.
