Job Overview

St Mary's School is seeking a practical, self-motivated and conscientious caretaker to join our busy school community and to ensure that we have a clean, tidy, safe and welcoming environment for our families.   We are looking for someone who is reliable, proactive, hardworking and flexible with a positive outlook on life, with good organisational skills who will take pride in our school, and who has the practical DIY skills to carry out minor repairs and general maintenance, as well as liaising with contractors.  This role will require you to have good common sense, practical skills and experience of using your own initiative.

Job Purpose

To support the Head Teacher in managing the school facilities, to ensure the security, safety and cleanliness of the School and its grounds and to carry out minor maintenance repairs and construction.

  • To supervise and contribute to the daily cleaning of the school

  • To be responsible for health and safety throughout the school buildings and the outside areas.

  • To carry out maintenance

  • To be responsible for the security of the school premises and contents.

  • To report and act upon any damage or faults.

  • To make items of furniture and equipment for school use.

  • To call out and liaise with approved contractors.

  • To assist with road safety before and after school.

  • To assist the Headteacher and staff in any reasonable requests.
