Job Overview
A varied role work at several locations across the island, providing minor maintenance and logistical support for Jersey Youth Service.
Job Purpose
- Responsible for the security of the Jersey Youth Service Government premises and its contents when the Site Manager is not in attendance.
- Responsible for organising repairs and repairing damage or faults and carry out minor maintenance construction, including carpentry.
- To assist in the supervision and deployment of staff and the oversight of any contractors/tradesmen on the Youth Service premises and to call out any engineer/tradesman when incidents occur and liaise with them in the absence of the Site Manager.
- To liaise with community users and be responsible for all activities in reference to community use whilst on duty in conjunction with other Site staff.
- To assist in the monitoring and effectiveness of the housekeeping team and be prepared to carry out cleaning duties.

Together with the other Site staff, have joint responsibility for:
- The security of the premises internal, external and all its contents including the car park, all windows, doors and gates on the youth service sites.
- Supervision of housekeeping team and liaison with other Site staff and contractors.
- General cleaning and maintenance of youth service sites, when required, specifically for our residential centres, which may include deep cleans and mowing lawns.
- Together with other site staff, inspect the building and plan general maintenance.
- Carry out repair work on a daily basis.
- Monitor of the specification and standards of the cleaning throughout the JYS portfolio of sites.
- In the absence of the Site Manager, have oversight and monitor the Building Management System.
- Deliveries to other premises
- Setting up for meetings and youth service events.

- General porterage duties, moving furniture etc.
- Report and where possible resolve any Health and Safety issues.
- In the absence of other Site staff, operate the CCTV Security System.
- Carry out small carpentry construction and maintenance works, including re-decoration.
- Carry out audits of JYS building areas for maintenance checks.
- Maintain the supply of resources to our sites and residential centres
- Driving a minibus in a support role (to work related events)
Qualifications
- Possession of current Jersey Driving Licence categories B,BE,C1,D1
- Be in possession of, or be prepared to obtain recognised First Aid Certificate.
Knowledge
- Understanding of the Health and Safety at Work Law and be willing to take on further training in Health and Safety.
General skills / attributes
- Proven supervisory skills and the ability to work towards a first line Management Certificate.
- Excellent organisational skills and ability to prioritise.
- Competent in dealing with the general public
- A good team member and able to work on own initiative
- Ability to maintain a good working relationship with everyone and work with youth workers, parents, young people, outside tradesmen and community users of JYS sites.
Experience
- Proven carpenter and joiner skills.
- Experience in working with CCTV systems
