Job Purpose
To provide organisation and management of staff (internal and external) who support a group of complex children and young people and to ensure that all children, young people, and staff are kept safe. The post holder will have extensive knowledge and skills in positive behaviour support and approaches to promote this. The post holder will be required to work independently at times and have the skills and experience to enable autonomous practice in all areas including supporting individuals with complex behaviour, leading a team, consultation responsibilities, family support and decision making.

Job Specific Outcomes
• To support a group of young people who can display anxious behaviours that challenge, to ensure best possible educational and personal outcomes.
• Work as part of a team to effectively manage and deploy resources and staff (internal and external) to meet the learning, sensory and emotional needs of a group of learners who can display anxious behaviours that challenge, to ensure best outcomes.
• To develop and review all consistent management plans, personal handling plans and risk assessments with families and the Multi-Disciplinary Teams to ensure that all are being followed appropriately, to provide the best outcomes. • To undertake a range of responsibilities within the ‘in-house’ SEMH team to improve the quality of life for all children and young people.
• To communicate effectively and respectfully with families, colleagues, line managers, multi-disciplinary teams, and external agencies (as required) to forge and develop trusting relationships.
Principal Accountabilities
Main Duties • To plan effective strategies to support pupils in engaging with the school based environment, as appropriate, within agreed systems of supervision. • Manage the development and implementation of individual development plans for pupils (such as Individual Education Plans) and review impact through assessment.
• To maintain a highly specialised knowledge base in the field of complex behavioural needs and associated mental health and other interventions, to be aware of the research basis for these interventions and to update this knowledge regularly.
• Support pupils in social and emotional wellbeing, ensuring that concerns are logged and escalated to the correct agency / Safeguarding Lead and implement strategies to ensure that the risk of future incidents are minimised.
• Manage the supervision of pupils out of lesson times, including before and after school, at lunchtimes and on school trips - ensuring that all needs are met and that risk assessments are completed.
• To consult and/or work with multi-disciplinary professionals from other agencies where they are working with family issues concerning complex behavioural, emotional and social needs and co-ordinated outside agency involvement.
• Contribute to and manage a group of Learning Support Assistants (LSA), as required, who are expected to undertake at least one of the following: a. Provide either 1:1 or small group support to pupils with special educational needs, for example, learning, behavioural, communication, social, sensory or physical difficulties. b. Provide targeted support to all pupils in a particular learning area (e.g. ICT, literacy, numeracy, etc). c. Support pupils working to an adapted timetable, including offsite. d. Work with parents to develop strong relationships between home and school including home visits prior to term commencement. e. Work with pupils to follow individual therapy / care plans which may include lifting, handling procedures and equipment instructions.
• Assess the needs of pupils and use detailed knowledge and specialist skills to support pupils’ learning.
• Participate in revelvant CPD and disseminate, as required, evidence-based practice developments, internally and externally.
• Help and support with social, welfare and health matters, reporting problems, as appropriate. Attend to pupils’ personal needs including toileting, hygiene, dressing and eating, as required. Physically assist pupils in activities, where mobility is an issue, and administering medication.
• Support the role of parents/carers in pupils’ learning and contribute to meetings with parents/carers to provide constructive feedback on pupil progress/achievement etc. • Attend and contribute to relevant reviews and other meetings as and when appropriate.
