Job Overview

 

To provide a high-quality, trauma-informed crisis response service to individuals presenting to the Sexual Assault Referral Centre (SARC) following rape or sexual assault. The postholder will deliver immediate emotional support, undertake triage assessments and coordinate care, ensuring individuals receive timely and appropriate interventions, regardless of whether they choose to engage with the criminal justice system.

 

The role involves supporting adult service users, as well as contributing to the coordination and support of paediatric forensic medical examinations, ensuring a sensitive and age-appropriate approach at all times.

 

This post forms part of a small, specialist team delivering the only forensic medical service on the Island, operating on a 24/7 basis.

Key Responsibilities

Provide immediate crisis intervention and emotional support to adult service users

 

Support the delivery and coordination of paediatric forensic medical examinations

 

Undertake initial triage assessments and coordinate ongoing care pathways

 

Support individuals in a sensitive, non-judgemental and person-centred manner

 

Liaise effectively with partner agencies, including healthcare professionals and police

 

Maintain accurate, confidential records in line with service and legislative requirements

 

Participate in the out-of-hours on-call rota to ensure continuous service provision

Working Pattern

16 hours per month of daytime work (typically between 08:00–16:00)

 

A requirement to support the out-of-hours crisis line

 

A minimum commitment of 4 on-call shifts per month, with additional shifts available to support service delivery

 

Out-of-Hours On-Call Shifts

 

Monday to Thursday: 16:00 – 08:00

 

Friday: 16:00 – 09:00

 

Saturday: 09:00 – 18:00 and 18:00 – 09:00

 

Sunday: 09:00 – 18:00 and 18:00 – 04:00

 

On-Call Arrangements

 

A £30 retainer is payable per on-call shift

 

During on-call periods, the postholder will be responsible for holding the crisis helpline

 

Where a referral is received, the postholder must be able to respond within 30 minutes, including attending Dewberry House if required

 

The role will also involve providing immediate crisis support via telephone, where appropriate

 

Where attendance at the Centre is required, payment will be made at Civil Service Grade 8 hourly rate

 

Access to a private vehicle is essential

Person Requirements

The postholder will demonstrate:

 

Experience of working with vulnerable individuals, including adults and/or children

 

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to adapt approach for different age groups

 

The ability to remain calm and professional under pressure

 

Emotional resilience and the ability to manage sensitive and distressing situations

Additional Information

This role requires a high level of professionalism, confidentiality and sensitivity. The nature of the work may be emotionally demanding, particularly when supporting both adult and paediatric cases. Appropriate training, support and supervision will be provided.
