Job Overview
Highlands College are seeking an enthusiastic motivated Lecturer in English. The successful candidate will deliver GCSE and Functional Skills English across the college motivating, inspiring and supporting our learners through their English programme. The appointed lecturer will need to have experience delivering English at GCSE level.

Job Purpose
Responsible for managing the learning process including classroom teaching and learning, supporting exam preparation, associated outreach, and relevant learning programmes and platforms.

1. Identify learning needs of individuals and groups, prepare and deliver lectures and seminars to enable students to meet assessments and examination requirements.
2. Assist in Curriculum development, the planning and evaluation of courses, review of course materials and lead specialist programmes as required.
3. Contribute to team/faculty meetings including course monitoring and course assessment to ensure objectives are being met.
4. Set and mark student work for assessment and examination, identify previously acquired competencies, verify assessment procedures, maintain relevant records for report writing, references, records of achievement for internal and external verification/validation purposes.
5. Plan continuing professional development, participate in performance review and appraisal and appropriate in-service training and evaluate and disseminate advances in training and development in order to facilitate individual and organisational learning.

6. Assist in ensuring the quality of the curriculum provision to meet internal and external standards through management of course meetings and contributing to course planning and review.
7. Assist in ensuring the college environment meets health and safety and security requirements.
8. Recognise the personal welfare needs of students, and initiate appropriate referrals. Monitor and develop the standards of students’ behaviour in order to provide additional support where a student is not completing a study programme as planned.
9. Identify course requirements and use resources allocated in order to create environment(s) conducive to the learning of individuals and groups.
10. Any other duties required by the Principal for the successful achievement of the job purpose.
Qualifications
Lecturers should possess:
> A requisite teaching qualification within the Qualified Teaching Learning & Skills framework.
> Evidence of a degree or appropriate technical or professional qualification
> Evidence of relevant academic, industrial or commercial experience
General skills / attributes
Lecturers should possess:
> An ability to communicate fluently and effectively
> An ability to work flexibly as part of a team
> An ability to motivate and inspire learners
> An ability to meet the requirements of examination and assessment bodies
> A preparedness to adhere to Continual Professional Development requirements
Experience
Experience in delivering GCSE English is necessary.
Scope
Lecturers are responsible on a day to day basis for the integration of students into the College, for ensuring standards of behaviour and study, and that as customers, students gain the maximum benefit from the resources available. The Lecturers’ role in monitoring and reporting on student progress will have a critical impact on results and future careers.
It is important that the lecturer ensures their own continuous professional development, both in terms of academic specialism, the local commercial environment and in-service training, keeping up to date with requirements of lead bodies and external examining bodies is essential.
The team working environment requires lecturers to contribute to all aspects of curriculum development, course assessment and resource planning. There is also a requirement to cover for the absence of colleagues.
