Full Time Firefighters
Being a Full Time Firefighter is more than a job—it’s a career dedicated to making a positive difference. The States of Jersey Fire & Rescue Service (SJFRS) does much more than just respond to emergencies:
- Preventing fires and other incidents through community engagement and education
- Helping people reduce risks in their homes and workplaces
- Protecting vulnerable people and ensuring buildings are safe and compliant
- Enforcing laws and holding individuals accountable for safety
- Responding professionally to a wide range of emergencies
Full Time Firefighters combine prevention, protection, and emergency response to support Jersey residents when they need it most.
On-Call Firefighters
On-Call Firefighters typically have another primary employment but respond to emergencies when alerted via a paging App called Fire Service Rota (FSR). Responsibilities include:
- Responding to incidents every 4 days in St Helier, or alternate evenings in St Brelade (currently under review)
- Handling a variety of emergencies, similar to full-time Firefighters
- Gaining valuable skills and earning additional income while supporting the community
No prior experience is needed—we provide comprehensive training. What matters is enthusiasm, reliability, flexibility, teamwork, and the ability to respond safely and quickly when called. On-call shifts are tailored around your availability, and you may be called out two or three times per week for a few hours at a time.
