Job Purpose
The Foot Health Practitioner is an autonomous, non-registered clinical practitioner who delivers skilled foot health assessment and treatment within an agreed scope of practice under podiatry professional governance.
The role provides preventative, maintenance and risk-based foot health care across outpatient, inpatient, community and domiciliary settings, with a particular contribution to diabetic foot pathways and patients with long-term conditions. The post holder exercises clinical judgement within defined protocols, manages risk, recognises deterioration and escalates appropriately to registered clinicians.
The role contributes directly to patient safety, prevention of avoidable deterioration, service capacity, and system efficiency, supporting timely access to podiatry services for patients referred from general practice, hospital specialties and diabetes services.

- General podiatry and foot health care for patients referred from General Practice
- Diabetic foot care pathways, including multidisciplinary foot clinics and foot infection MDTs
- Support to inpatient medical and surgical services where podiatry input is required
- Community clinic and domiciliary foot health services as directed by service need

Job Specific Outcomes 1 of 2
- Undertake autonomous foot health assessment and treatment within agreed scope of practice, including scalpel debridement of callosities and management of skin and nail pathology, in line with clinical protocols.
- Deliver defined elements of care within diabetic foot pathways, including wound care support and risk monitoring, working under multidisciplinary governance.
- Apply clinical judgement to recognise deterioration, infection, ischaemia or safeguarding concerns and escalate promptly to registered podiatrists or appropriate multidisciplinary colleagues.
- Contribute as a practitioner member of diabetic foot services, including attendance at weekly diabetic foot infection multidisciplinary team meetings as required, providing relevant clinical input within scope.

RQF Level 4 Foot Health Practitioner qualification, or equivalent recognised foot health qualification, or demonstrable equivalent competence with commitment to achieve RQF Level 4 within an agreed timeframe. |
Additional training in wound care, diabetes, vascular awareness, or phlebotomy.

The post holder will have regular contact with adults who may be at risk. The role requires the ability to recognise safeguarding concerns, act in accordance with organisational policy, and escalate concerns appropriately. Appropriate pre-employment checks, including DBS and identity checks, will be required.
