Job Overview

This post is for a GP with specialist interest in Dermatology post based at the Jersey General Hospital. It is an opportunity for a Jersey-based General Practitioner interested in developing a special interest in dermatology to gain experience in a friendly and supportive environment. The successful candidate will join the Dermatology team. The postholder will be involved in all aspects of management of Dermatology out- and in-patients including outpatient inflammatory and skin cancer clinics, minor ops and ward work.

 

The Dermatology Department is self-contained. It is equipped to a high standard and provides a pleasing environment for both patients and staff. The Dermatology Department provides the following services:

• Cryotherapy

• Phototherapy: PUVA ( including topical hands and feet PUVA therapy) and TLO1 therapy

• Iontophoresis

• Photodynamic therapy

• Patch test service

• Dedicated minor operations theatre

 

An exciting development within the Dermatology service is the introduction of Confocal Microscopy imaging to support the diagnosis of skin cancers.

Clinical Duties

• To undertake clinical practice within the dermatology for both outpatients and inpatients ensuring that personalised, evidence informed medical care plans are delivered to all patients and that they are appropriately documented and regularly evaluated

• To undertake drug monitoring clinic for inflammatory conditions/ patients established on immunosuppressive medications (Methotrexate, Azathioprine, Cyclosporin, Mycofenolate mofetil) and on Retinoids (Acitretin and Isotretinoin)

• To participate and observe outpatient clinics for adult and paediatric dermatology under supervision of a Dermatology Consultant

• To undertake minor operations biopsy list within dermatology department for adults

• To engage with wider members of the MDT and participate in the dermatology MDT

• To participate in providing skin cancer services by attending MDT meetings 

• To maintain good quality up to date medical records including timely discharge letters and outpatient letters

• To ensure appropriate documentation and coding is used to provide consistent audit and monitoring of the service

• To adhere to local prescribing guidelines

• The post holder should be adaptable, flexible and innovative in order to meet the ongoing challenges within the service. The responsibilities of the role may change from time to time

• To comply with infection prevention & control requirements including the latest COVID-19 guidance and policies

• The post holder will be expected to be fully involved in a ‘Risk Management” program and support the Governance agenda

• To participate in educational and audit meetings relevant to dermatology

• To have continuing responsibility for the care of patients in their charge including all administrative duties associated with patient care

• To liaise effectively and on a timely basis with General Practitioners and specialists

• To contribute towards the development of protocols within the hospital in conjunction with the community services

• To participate in departmental meetings and activities

• To participate in the management and service development of the Dermatology Departmen 

Essential Qualifications

GMC/ GP register

MRCP

Licensed to practice as GP in Jersey 

Knowledge

Minimum 2 years (FTE or equivalent)experience in General Practice

Understanding of clinical governance issues, organisational abilities and goodtime management

IT Literate
