Job Overview

Health & Care Jersey has an exciting opportunity for a talented individual to join our team and drive improvements in the provision of acute care for Jersey’s islanders.  With a new acute hospital build on the horizon, preparation for regulatory assessment underway and the need to shape and evolve our services that include considerations regarding off island contracting, there are complex and rewarding areas of work that will provide an exciting portfolio for the successful candidate.  This role will require a motivated, experienced leader with a proven track record in building effective multi-professional relationships to deliver positive outcomes within an acute provider setting but also across a health system.

Health Care Jersey is seeking to recruit an experienced healthcare operational colleague to contribute to the collective leadership of the Women and Children care group in Acute Services.  Accountable to the Chief of Service, the General Manager is a critical component of the senior leadership team for each care group with core responsibilities that include budget management, day to day operational oversight of service delivery and improvements to access and waiting list performance through capacity and demand modelling and business planning.  The role holder will work as an effective member of the SLT, alongside Care Group Lead Nurses/Director of Midwifery to provide visible and compassionate leadership to clinical and non-clinical colleagues in Health & Care Jersey.  Predominantly working at Jersey General Hospital in St Helier but also at The Enid Quenault Health and Wellbeing Centre (a new healthcare facility) they will line manage assistant general manager and care group administrative staff delivering both inpatient and outpatient services and care.

Jersey is a unique place to live and work and being a General Manager in Jersey is different. As a crown dependency, we are an Island nation which includes our own Health Care Service that is not part of the NHS.

Health & Care Jersey benefits from a small local population and a close-knit medical team as well as support from tertiary centres in the UK such as Southampton, Royal Marsden, Oxford, Cambridge and Great Ormond Street. Specialists include Urogynaecologist consultant, Gynaecology and Oncology.

The Women and Children care group has recently received significant investment in services resulting in a new maternity unit which has transformed the experience of women and families. In addition, we have a refurbishment project live that is making improvements to the inpatient and specialist outpatient areas for this care group surgical elective and day case procedures in gynaecology. The care group consists of over 90% substantive workforce who enjoy the advantage of a manageable workload, political support and continued investment to improve services. Health & Care Jersey is the integrated health care component of the Government of Jersey public service and incorporates Ambulance, Adult Mental Health, Social care, Community inpatient services alongside public health, screening services and island wide division to incorporate the complex nature of Jersey’s health care provision that includes public and private entities.
