Job Overview

We are looking for an expert nurse with strong clinical, communication and leadership abilities to become the Haematology Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) within the Haematology team at Jersey General Hospital The team includes 2 Haematology consultants, 1 ACP, 1 senior sister and is supported by a team of 5 SACT nurses. This role offers an excellent opportunity for an already experienced CNS looking for a new challenge. You will use clinical expertise, leadership and management skills to ensure co-ordination of the care of patients with a Haemato-oncology malignancy, providing a seamless service for patients and their families. In collaboration with the multi-disciplinary team, which includes medical staff, and prescribing pharmacist will develop a model of care in providing support, assessment, and education for this group of patients. As a registered nurse with additional specialist knowledge and experience, you will have completed or demonstrated the ability to complete all relevant courses and competencies. You will aim to have the expert skills and competencies required to manage a caseload within agreed boundaries and protocols in line with clinical governance, entwined around this clinical core are ties of consultancy, teaching, management, and research and its application. It is essential that you are currently a Registered Nurse with the NMC and that you have substantial experience in a cancer nursing role.

 

This is a permanent position working 37.5 hours per week over 5 days.

 

Main duties of the job

  • The CNS is an advanced practitioner who is usually the first point of contact for patients on complex treatment pathways.
  • The CNS will act as the key worker for patients with a new diagnosis of Lymphoma or at disease progression, explaining treatment options, assessing information needs and suitability for therapies.
  • The CNS will be required to set up nurse clinics and attend multi professional clinics.
  • The CNS will plan and schedule treatments, troubleshoot issues and remain an important source of continuity and support to patients through their cancer treatment and beyond.
  • The CNS will deliver level 2 psychological support and assesses holistic needs.
  • The CNS will act as a specialist educational resource and aid the professional development of junior nurses in the department.
