Job Overview
The Diabetes Clinic is seeking an enthusiastic health care assistant to join to join their team.
The role includes welcoming patients into the department, ensuring the smooth running of clinics, manage clinic stock and check equipment. It is expected that you will prepare patients for the clinics and perform biometric measurement such as height, weight and blood pressure and phlebotomy, appropriate training will be provided if required. Other clinic preparation includes preparation for weekly structured education sessions with potential future opportunity for the right candidate to be trained to deliver structured education. Other tasks may include downloading glucose and insulin pump data prior to the clinic. This is an advanced skill that will have training provision. Another future opportunity is training in interpreting blood glucose data to be able to provide advice to patients.
Excellent interpersonal skills are essential as you will be required to respond to patient enquiries (either face to face or by phone/email). It is anticipated you will receive training and gain competencies that could facilitate running your own clinic appointments for teaching patients how to use blood glucose monitors and continuous blood glucose monitoring systems.
The role will also involve ordering supplies, maintaining a contemporaneous order list, and adhering to infection control policies for cleaning clinical areas and equipment.
Portuguese speaking is an advantage. The post is Monday-Friday 9-5pm, based at Enid Quenault Health & Wellbeing Centre with occasional requirement to work from another hospital site.

Job Purpose
To promote the wellbeing health and independence by supporting patients/clients with activities of daily living in order to meet planned care goals. Staff at this level will work under the general guidance and direction of trained staff and will have immediate access to advice and guidance

The post holder will demonstrate that activities of daily living are carried out in accordance with the individual’s care plan and the standards of care for clinical areas.
The post holder will work collaboratively as a member of the multi-disciplinary team demonstrating well established networks and will contribute to the achievement of team goals.
The post holder will demonstrate cost consciousness and contribute to controlling expenditure within the clinical area.
The post holder will demonstrate basic key board skills and will carry out all designated administrative tasks effectively.
The post holder will seek opportunities to develop knowledge and skills and will participate constructively in the Performance Review and Appraisal process.
The post holder will contribute to the management of the immediate physical environment which will involve understanding and promoting all health, safety and security measures in hospital and home settings and carry out designated housekeeping tasks effectively.

Qualifications
In possession of or committed to work towards level vocational award in health care
RQF / NVQ level 2 Care Certificate
