Job Overview

We are looking for a highly motivated Healthcare Assistant to join us on Orchard Ward.  The successful candidate must be reliable and hardworking, supporting the delivery of excellent standards of care .

The post holder must have good communication skills and a friendly caring attitude to work with patients promoting health and independence whilst providing support to meet planned goals of care. Staff working at this level will work under the direction, and have immediate access to advice and guidance from registered nurses on the unit.

IT skills are required for e-learning and use of electronic records.

As a Healthcare Assistant (HCA) within a working age mental health inpatient ward, you provide high-quality, person-centred care to individuals experiencing acute mental health difficulties. You support registered nursing staff and the multidisciplinary team in delivering safe, therapeutic care, promoting recovery, independence, and wellbeing.
Support patients experiencing conditions such as depression, anxiety, psychosis, and personality disordersEncourage participation in structured activities and therapeutic programmesPromote social inclusion and emotional wellbeing

The post holder will demonstrate a thorough knowledge of the guidelines of the Government of Jersey/Support Worker Code (2009) and apply these to maintain trust and credibility with patients, carers and colleagues.

The post holder takes responsibility for the safeguarding and welfare of all children, adults and/or families within their care and contact. He/she shall be aware of and comply with all safeguarding polices and procedures

Knowledge

Understanding of mental health care principles
Experience working in healthcare or support roles (desirable)
Knowledge of safeguarding and risk management
Familiarity with de-escalation techniques (desirable)

Work within organisational policies and professional boundaries
Adhere to health and safety regulations and infection control standards
Maintain confidentiality at all times

Experience

Previous experience of working in mental health services or in ward environments desireable but not essential
