Job Purpose
To lead a comprehensive support service for all users of Information Technology and to provide a general support service for Audio Visual Technology use throughout the campus. To provide strategic advice directly to the Leadership Group (LG) on all aspects of Information Communication Technology. To support the planning and development of the College’s technical systems including Local Area Network, Wide Area Networks, Wireless network and the school’s website. To act as the first line of support for all hardware and software requests, to troubleshoot networks, and to install hardware and software on workstations and servers to support the achievement of the operational objectives and curriculum and administrative activities.
Principal Accountabilities
- To plan, develop and implement structures to meet the Vision and ICT targets set by the College and the States of Jersey.
- To provide strategic advice to the school’s LG and Governors as part of the cycle of College development and replacement planning ensuring the school is making use of the latest developments in computing technologies where possible.
- Manage all network and workstation installations, all associated cabling, network points, network switches, servers, internet filter(s) and manage all work of contracted engineers on site, to ensure a full ICT service is provided.
- Solve network problems and install/configure new software applications, drivers and software upgrades as required in conjunction with the Education Department and other 3rd party companies.
- Recommend and negotiate with suppliers and Government of Jersey ICT team, for new hardware and software to support the curriculum and administrative information systems within the school.
- Manage the regular maintenance programme for all College-based technical systems, advise Line Manager on a rolling replacement programme, and ensure that equipment and software is recorded in the asset register.
- Manage the delegated ICT budgets.
- Develop and maintain the school intranet and other associated communication technologies, including e-mail distribution groups and applications related to our Management Information Systems (e.g. Go4Schools), ensuring that all communication channels are maintained and kept up to date.
Principal Accountabilities Cont.
- Manage, support and administer all user accounts, including student and staff logins to the network(s).
- Ensure that access to the internet is filtered by approved software to prevent inappropriate material being accessed by students.
- Support teachers in the classroom to enable them to enhance teaching and learning through the application of ICT. Develop training programmes for curriculum software packages appropriate to the needs of the teachers and students and deliver these where appropriate.
- Assist staff at all levels throughout the school in the introduction and development of highly specialised technical computer applications and general information technology applications, including updates to Management Information Systems.
- Help develop a culture within the College that promotes and encourages the use of ICT. Assist in and provide the training of personnel (staff and students) at all levels throughout the school in new skills required relating to computer technology, safety and general working practices.
- Auditing, maintaining and – if needed – developing new safe working procedures and practices for existing and new ICT and AV systems, advising on the school's health and safety policy, maintaining records as appropriate and ensuring health and safety requirements are implemented within the areas of responsibility.
- Ensure a safe working environment within the Great Hall and Howard Davis Theatre, carry out safety and risk assessments as required and maintain records as appropriate, liaising with the College Site Manager.
- Provide support for the Website Officer in developing and maintaining the school website and ensuring that all information on the school website remains fully up to date.
- Manage the work of ICT technicians and provide / arrange appropriate training, support and performance review.
- Provide audio visual support for school events which can be out of hours on occasions.
This job description is subject to annual review to ensure it meets the needs of the College.
Person specification
The post holder will be a key member of the support team at Victoria College and the Prep and will work closely with staff at both schools as directed by the Deputy Headteacher.
The post holder has a key role in striving to deliver better, more efficient and effective support services to all stakeholders across the campus.
The post holder will be proactive around the campus to ensure high standards of maintenance and support services are being offered.
The post holder will develop key working relationships with colleagues in both schools and within other States Departments. There will be regular contact with colleagues at Government of Jersey, Suppliers, Parents and Students.

- Have the expertise, or be prepared to undertake specialist training, to assist in the system management of the departmental computing and communications networks.

- Working knowledge of CCTV equipment.
- Knowledge of fire safety and incident control procedures.
