The States of Jersey established an Independent Prison Monitoring Board (IPMB) in 2017 and is seeking to appoint additional members. All positions are voluntary and for an initial four-year term.
The IPMB monitors the treatment of prisoners and all matters affecting their welfare and human rights.
This is an interesting and rewarding role in that it offers an opportunity to contribute to the community in an important way. The States of Jersey Prison Service (SoJPS) accommodates a wide variety of people, so applications from individuals from diverse backgrounds is encouraged.
The commitment of an IPMB member is approximately 10 hours a month, including attendance at monthly meetings, making monitoring and application visits to the prison and being available for other events such as training.
There will be a shortlisting and interview process, and full DBS checks of applicants will be undertaken.
Information drop-in sessions for interested applicants will be held on:
- Tuesday 4th November from 12:00 – 14:00 and,
- Wednesday 5th November from 17:00 – 19:00
at the Jersey Library in Halkett Place.
