Job Overview

Jersey General Hospital are looking for a Locally Appointed for Service (LAS) doctor to recruit to our vacant F2 post. The post is rotational working across General Medicine and General Psychiatry for 4 months each totalling approximately 8 months on a fixed term basis until 4th August 2026.

Full GMC registration is an essential requirement for this post.

Job Purpose

You will work on the resident doctor rota with the other trainees appointed via Wessex Deanery. Basic pay is in line with the NHS pay scales and any additional enhancements will be dependent on the rota you work on in each speciality.

Statutory Responsibilities

All F2 Doctors in hospital posts will generally be ward based during the normal working day and expected to deliver the daily medical care of all the patients on their ward irrespective of specialty.

The F2 doctor is responsible with other staff for the ward care of patients and the maintenance of the patients medical record. They are expected to attend the structured teaching programme provided by the department. The doctor will be responsible for: ward jobs, ward round, notes taking, blood taking, cannulation, ABG, clerking patients on admission. Reviewing sick patients, ordering investigations, keeping patient list etc.

The overall objectives of the F2 year are to provide the trainee with the knowledge, skills and attitudes to be able to:

Take a history and examine a patient

Identify and synthesise problems

Prescribe safely

Keep an accurate and relevant medical record

Manage time and clinical priorities effectively

Communicate effectively with patients, relatives and colleagues

Use evidence, guidelines and audit to benefit patient care

Act in a professional manner at all times

Cope with ethical and legal issues which occur during the management of patients with general medical problems

Educate patients effectively

Become life-long learners and teachers.

Experience

Essential

  • Can show evidence of clinical practice within the last 2 years. Has experience of working in the NHS.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Holds full GMC registration. Has achieved a primary medical qualification as recognised by the GMC.
