Job Purpose
- To provide the pupils and teaching staff with appropriate support in the planning, implementation and monitoring of education programmes to enable access to learning for students within the ARC for Autism and Social Communication.
- To assist the teacher in the management and inclusion of students within the ARC for Autism and Social Communication.
- To take responsibility for agreed activities as directed by the Manger of the ARC for Autism and Social Communication.
- Be responsible for the supervision and development of a specialist area within the team.
- To help support the development of staff within the school in the area of autism spectrum condition or social communication difficulties.
Experience
Lead Keyworkers are expected to undertake their own programmes (which have been planned with the teacher or Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator) with groups or individual students. Weekly meetings will be held with the teacher or Special Educational Needs Co-ordinatorIdeally candidates should have the following, however, a lack of all of these should not deter applicants from applying.
- Minimum of 5 GCSEs A to C Grades
- Numeracy/literacy skills. GCSE Grades A to C or to a minimum of Level 2 standard
- NVQ 3 or equivalent qualification or
Diploma in Childcare Education at Level 3 plus 2 years relevant experience
- Training in at least two relevant strategies e.g. show evidence of continued professional development
- Appropriate First Aid training
Personal Attributes
Although the post holder will be working under the guidance of a teacher, there will be occasions when they need to make decisions and use their initiative. They must be flexible and able to cope with changing situations within the classroom. Be patient but firm, remain calm and deal with others in a tactful and sensitive manner. Working within a team, the post holder will need to share ideas and information as well as accept advice. They must have the ability to build good working relationships with both adults and children.
