Job Overview
As the main Further Education College in Jersey, our mission is to equip young people with the skills they need to be successful in education and in the world of work.
This is an exciting opportunity to join our successful Learning Support Department as a lead key worker, assisting students with a diverse range of learning difficulties and disabilities to be successful on their vocational education programme and to develop their literacy, numeracy and study skills.
This role offers candidates an opportunity to build on knowledge and experience in this area and to work with a great team of very able and dedicated Learning Support Staff.
The team regularly engages in CPD and wellbeing activities, with lots of opportunities provided to share best practice within and beyond the team.
We are looking for someone who;

Job Purpose
To provide students with appropriate support to enable their access to learning and facilitate learning.
Under guidance, to provide support in the planning, implementation and monitoring of special educational interventions to meet the needs of individuals or small groups with special educational needs.
To support the physical welfare of the students, both in an integrated and stand-alone environment and supervise medication as prescribed by a physician.

- To provide support for students, including those with special needs, ensuring their safety and access to learning activities, in line with the curriculum.
- Under guidance, to implement agreed work programmes/practical lessons. Supervise and assess the students in planned activities within the curriculum areas in the manner best suited to the individual needs. To assist in the planning of curriculum delivery with academic staff and in the implementation of the curriculum. To support learning programmes, recording achievements and progress and providing learner feedback.
- To support the transition of learners with SEN from school to College and/or from College to the workplace through a programme of planned trips and activities. Accompany teaching staff on visits, trips and out of College activities where appropriate. Transporting and supporting physically disabled and special needs students where necessary.
- Contribute to specific reports when requested by consultants, Gps and parents on students with medical problems, of for students Annual Review Reports.
- Participate in training and development and other learning activities and performance development as required.

- Attend to the students’ personal needs, and implement related personal programmes, including social, health, physical, hygiene and welfare matters. To facilitate physical access for the student to all aspects of the programme of learning and establish ways of communicating that demonstrate respect and understanding.
- Provide administrative support required for the role, record attendance and activities, set targets and review, devise resources, photocopy and so forth.
- To support and develop partnerships with tutors, liaising with them, with the support of the teacher in charge of support, to ensure consistency in approach for the students, to include the monitoring of personal targets (ILPs or Record of Need). To maintain appropriate records of support provided including in the monitoring of student targets. To liaise with parents where appropriate.
- Be aware of and comply with policies and procedures relating to child protection health, safety and security, confidentiality and data protection. Report all concerns to an appropriate person.
Qualifications
Essential = Numeracy/literacy skills Level 2.
Desirable= Level 3 qualification, AET or equivalent qualification or commitment to work towards an appropriate qualification.
First Aid training (or willingness to work towards this).
Knowledge
Essential = A commitment to further professional development and actively seeking learning opportunities relevant to the role which may involve the completion of other forms of accredited training.
Desirable =
Can use ICT effectively to support learning, including knowledge and skills of other equipment/technology – SMART board, photocopier.
Awareness of relevant policies/SEN code of practice and relevant legislation.
Awareness of college curriculum and other related vocational programmes.
Work constructively as part of a team, understanding classroom roles and responsibilities and your own position within these.
Knowledge of Health and Safety.
Ability to plan effective actions for students who require support to progress their learning or who require specific support to facilitate their accessing of learning opportunities.
Ability to work flexibly and independently where necessary.
Promote inclusion and independence for all students, showing an awareness of equal opportunities.
The ability to communicate at all levels while exercising a high degree of confidentiality is essential.
Experience
1.1 Ability to relate well to post 16 learners and adults.
