Ideally you will have a level 2 or equivalent qualification in Teaching and Learning.
The position is graded at TAF06 and working 31 hours per week, term time only.

Job Purpose
To work collaboratively with teachers and provide specialised advice and / or support as part of a professional team to provide targeted assistance to all areas of the curriculum, supporting those pupils who need particular help in overcoming barriers to learning.
Provide targeted support or specialised support to pupils in all aspects of the curriculum, whilst building relationships with these pupils and their families. Under mutual agreement, this may include working with them within their homes.
The postholder will be required to manage planned intervention group with pupils. Adds value by supporting adaptive teaching and learning opportunities planned and directed by the teacher which supports the development of independent learning skills associated with improved learning outcomes.
May act as Team leader for a small group / team and so would be responsible for supporting and advising less experienced staff.
Occasionally cover whole classes during short term absence of a teacher. The primary focus during such absences is to maintain classroom organisation and to ensure that learning continues.
Job Specific Outcomes
Oversee learning by providing specialist resources for lesson/activities, which may include the transition plan and undertake at least one of the following:
- Provide either 1:1 or small group support to identified pupils.
- Provide support to all pupils in a particular learning area (e.g. ICT, literacy, numeracy, National Curriculum subject).
- Support pupils not working to the normal timetable, including offsite.
- Work with parents to develop strong relationships between home & school, including home visits prior to term commencement.
- Supervise or manage the work and development of other classroom support staff.
- Follow individual therapy / care plans which may include lifting, handling procedures and equipment instructions.
- Plan and deliver programmes of support to pupils who are experiencing social, emotional and mental health needs, either on a 1:1 basis or in small groups.
In collaboration with the class teacher; identify learning objectives for individual pupils, plan and prepare appropriate learning resources, support differentiated activities for individual pupils or smallgroups, and promote maximum inclusion within the curriculum.
Be aware of risk assessments and follow agreed protocols in relation to the moving and handling, crises intervention and restraint of pupils.
Support pupils with their personal care and hygiene, (some of whom are severely multi disabled and doubly incontinent).
Supervise pupils during lunchtime, in play and recreation areas, and on out of school visits e.g. horse riding, swimming, community/ social activities etc.
Observe and monitor the development of specific pupils, reviewing and recording progress appropriately and applying this knowledge to assist with future planning.
Carry out therapy programmes as advised by relevant professionals, such as physiotherapists, occupational therapists, speech and language therapists.
Respond calmly and responsibly in emergencies, consulting appropriate professionals as necessary e.g. emergency services, school nurse, therapists, teachers. Follow agreed protocols for administering medication and medical intervention procedures.
In consultation with the class teacher, support and develop partnerships with parents, to ensure consistency of approach for the pupils.
Attend team and staff meetings, INSET and other training opportunities to enhance professional development. Demonstrate an awareness of school policy and best practice.
Maintain a professional teaching and learning environment ensuring standards of health and safety, tidiness, cleanliness and general care are preserved.
Person specification
NVQ / CACHE level 2 or equivalent accredited qualification in Teaching and Learning, and either working towards or a commitment to obtaining NVQ / CACHE level 3 or equivalent accredited qualification in Teaching and Learning.
Numeracy and literacy skills equivalent to Level 2.
