Job Overview
University College Jersey at Highlands College are seeking a permanent Programme Leader for the BA (Hons) Childhood Studies programme, lecturing on this and other suitable programmes. Validated by the University of Plymouth, the Childhood Studies programme is a critical component of Jersey's childcare and early years sector, preparing graduates for childcare and early years practice, with excellent progression destinations. The ideal candidate will have knowledge, skills, and experience in the childcare and early years sector, with excellent leadership, communication, and teamwork, and extensive experience of leading high-quality teaching, learning, and assessment in a Higher Education environment.

Job Purpose
The purpose of this role is to lead the development, growth, and continuous improvement of the BA (Hons) Childhood Studies programme within Highlands College’s Higher Education department, University College Jersey, and to teach on this and other suitable programmes at Highlands College.
This is a permanent, full-time, substantive teaching post, with a Supplementary Allowance (SA2) for Programme Leadership, which includes 72 hours remission as well as a remunerated allowance per full academic year.
Working hours are defined in the Highlands College Lecturers’ Terms and Conditions of Service.

Role Specific
- Lead on the development and delivery of the BA (Hons) Childhood Studies programme at UCJ.
- Teach, assess, and where appropriate, tutor on BA (Hons) Childhood Studies and other suitable programmes at Highlands College.
- Support promotion, student recruitment, admissions, and enrolment of students to grow the number of students on the BA (Hons) Childhood Studies programme.
- Monitor student engagement on the BA (Hons) Childhood Studies programme through attendance and grade tracking, making impactful, risk-based interventions where necessary.
- Encourage student engagement in student experience and student voice activities as part of the wider UCJ student community.
- Develop and sustain impactful partnerships with external stakeholders to develop quality and student experience.
- Maintain a continuous record of professional development through engagement with TLD activities, opportunities, and research and scholarly activity.
- Support the Head of UCJ to continuously improve teaching, learning, and assessment on the BA (Hons) Childhood Studies programme in line with the Highlands College Approach
- Retain students for the duration of their programme to ensure successful continuation, completion, awards, and progression outcomes.
- Support the Head of UCJ to comply with awarding body regulations, cycles, and deadlines, self-assessing the BA (Hons) Childhood Studies programme to form impactful, evidence-based plans for continuous improvement.
Qualifications
Essential
Relevant teaching qualification (or willingness to work towards this).
Undergraduate degree in a relevant subject area.
Willingness to engage in continuous professional development, research, and scholarly activity.
Desirable
Postgraduate (Masters) degree in a relevant subject area (or willingness to work towards this).
Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy (AdvanceHE).
Level 3 (or above) qualified Childcare or Early Years Practitioner/Educator.
Knowledge
Strong subject knowledge and skills.
Up-to-date knowledge of HE pedagogy.
Experience engaging and developing external relationships, partnerships, and networks.
Experience of HE Programme Leadership.
