Job Overview

University College Jersey at Highlands College are seeking a permanent, full-time Lecturer for the BA (Hons) Social Work (Jersey) programme and other suitable programmes. Validated by the University of Plymouth, the Social Work programme is a critical component of Jersey's Social Work sector, preparing graduates for Social Work England registration, and excellent progression destinations. The ideal candidate will have knowledge, skills, and experience in the Social Work profession, with excellent communication and teamwork, and extensive experience of high-quality teaching, learning, and assessment in a Higher Education environment.

Job Purpose

The purpose of this role is to teach on BA (Hons) Social Work (Jersey) and other suitable programmes at Highlands College. This is a permanent, full-time, substantive teaching post within the Highlands College Higher Education department, University College Jersey.

 

Working hours are defined in the Highlands College Lecturers’ Terms and Conditions of Service.

Role Specific

-   Teach, assess, and where appropriate, tutor on BA (Hons) Social Work (Jersey) and other suitable programmes at Highlands College.  

-   Support admissions and enrolment of students to grow the number of students on BA (Hons) Social Work (Jersey).

-   Support student engagement, retention, continuation, and completion through attendance and grade tracking, making interventions where necessary. 

-   Encourage student engagement in student experience and student voice activities as part of the wider UCJ student community.

-   Support partnerships with external stakeholders to develop quality and student experience.

-   Maintain a continuous record of professional development through engagement with TLD activities, opportunities, and research and scholarly activity.

-   Support the Head of UCJ to continuously improve teaching, learning, and assessment on UCJ Business and Finance programmes in line with the Highlands College Approach.

Qualifications

-   Relevant teaching qualification (or willingness to work towards this).

-   Undergraduate degree in a relevant subject area.

-   Willingness to engage in continuous professional development, research, and scholarly activity.

 

Knowledge

-   Strong subject knowledge and skills.

-   Up-to-date knowledge of HE pedagogy.

-   An ability to meet the requirements of the role.

Experience

-  Relevant work experience as a Social Worker.

-  Experience in a teaching, training or coaching role.
