Job Overview
Due to Departmental modernisation and restructuring, I & E. are looking to recruit an Electrical Technician at Multi Skilled level.
This is an exciting opportunity to join an enthusiastic and motivated team based at Bellozanne. We are looking for candidates with sound judgement and decision-making abilities.
To undertaking fault finding and diagnostic work as required to repair and maintain equipment and assets owned or operated by the Government of Jersey.
Working Monday - Friday, 38 hours per week. The successful candidates will also have the opportunity to join our “out of hours” standby roster to assist with any emergencies.
The post holder will be required to conduct work in accordance with the required manufacturers specification and current legislation, I & E’s own Mechanical & Electrical Safety Rules, British Standards, Codes of Practice, safe systems of work and recognised industrial standards for such work.
You should be able to demonstrate at least 3 years relevant experience within an industrial environment, along with having served a recognised apprenticeship with relevant City & Guild qualifications, or hold a HNC in electrical, electronic or instrumentation and control engineering.

Job Purpose
To provide the department and its clients with a multi-faceted electrical engineering technician skill base in order to construct, maintain and repair Government Of Jersey owned or operated assets in accordance with statutory regulations and manufacturers recommendations to ensure safety, reliability and cost effectiveness.
Budgetary Responsibility
Has direct daily responsibility for the safe operation and financial value of the States’ assets that they are working on.
• Asset value varies but will often involve equipment worth tens of thousands of pounds that may form part of an infrastructure valued at many millions. E.g. specialist pumps within the Sewage Treatment Works or specialist waste shredding machinery.
• Safety of third parties is inherent with these roles as the assets being maintained are technical, mechanised and complex.
Job Specific Outcomes 1 of 2
Inspect, diagnose and repair faults on technical equipment and assets owned or operated by the Government of Jersey in line with their core electrical trade skills. Install and commission new technical equipment and assets owned or operated by the Government of Jersey.
• Carry out planned preventative maintenance, servicing and overhauls of technical equipment and assets owned or operated by the Government of Jersey. Carry out inspection and testing of process systems and equipment in accordance with statutory regulations appropriate to the equipment being worked on.
• As a multi-skilled technician, when required the post holder will utilise their appropriate secondary skills in addition to their core electrical trade skills in order to carry out their duties in the most cost efficient, yet competent, manner.
• Take an active role in the creation, on-going development and implementation of health & Safety method statements and written risk assessments for the wellbeing of themselves, co-workers and the general public. Produce, and work to, written dynamic risk assessments when dealing with situations not conforming to a standard risk assessment.
• Assist in the design, manufacture or modification of simple components, not subject to statutory design criteria, nor affecting the safe use/operation of any related equipment.
• Carry out all required preparation and cleaning of equipment and assets prior to and after maintenance or repair.
• Use appropriate tools and specialist machinery in a safe manner to carry out the required task in the most efficient manner.
• Report back on work done, materials used, time taken, further work required and asset condition using the appropriate work reporting system in use by the electrical section.
