Health and Care Jersey is seeking a keen and dedicated Paediatric Dietitian to work alongside our children's therapy teams in the Child Development & Therapy Centre. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Dietitian with a passion for delivering high quality, family centred care to infants, children and young people with a wide range of acute and chronic health conditions. 

The successful candidate will manage a varied and complex paediatric caseload, working autonomously to provide expert nutritional assessment, treatment and advice. As a highly valued member of the service you will contribute to service developments, quality improvement and the ongoing advancement of paediatric dietetic care across Jersey.

Job Purpose

To work as a Specialist Paediatric Dietitian, providing expert clinical knowledge, autonomous decision-making, and strategic input to manage a diverse paediatric caseload with a variety of acute and chronic diseases across Health and Care Jersey (HCJ).

Act as a clinical expert in the assessment, diagnosis and management of infants, children and young people with: 

• Faltering growth, complex feeding issues, food allergies/ intolerances
• Coeliac disease, IBD, GI disorders 
• Diabetes (type 1) 
• Neurodivergence and enteral feeding (including home enteral care) 
• Neonatal nutrition (including NICU/SCBU support, breast milk fortication, growth monitoring, parenteral nutrition input) 
• Outpatients and community paediatric clinics

The post holder will also take responsibility for developing the service, supporting governance and providing specialist advice across the wider health and social care system. 

The post holder is expected to work independently as the sole paediatric dietitian within the service, with access to professional supervision and peer support via external networks and/ or remote colleagues. 

Statutory Responsibilities

Active engagement, participation and compliance with any other statutory responsibilities applicable to the role, as amended from time to time.

The post holder will have to comply with all relevant States Laws, such as the Health and Safety at Work (Jersey) Law 1989 and any other associated legislation, Standing Orders, Financial Directions and other Codes of Practice.

To work in accordance with the Data Protection (Jersey) Law. Ensure appropriate communication of relevant patient information through the maintenance and updating of patient/client records in line with requirements of Clinical Governance and Quality as set out in the Standards of Practice from BDA; HCPC and HCS.

To meet all requirements of Clinical Governance (e.g. statutory & mandatory; CPD; reflective practice etc.) and propose any necessary changes to dietetic service delivery which this may give rise to. To interpret and inform the relevant MDT of specific national and professional evidence and policies which affect the specialist area. This role is politically restricted.

The job holder is not permitted to undertake political activity involving standing for election to the Government or as a Parish Constable, or publicly supporting someone who is standing for election or playing a public part in any political manner. 

Essential Qualifications

BSc Hons Degree in Human Nutrition and Dietetics or Postgraduate Diploma/ MSc in Human Nutrition and Dietetics.

Registration with the Health Care Professions Council (HCPC) and British Dietetic Association (BDA).

Evidence of Continuing Professional Development.

Desirable Qualifications

Accredited post registration training in relevant areas.

Membership to BDA Specialist Interest group. 

Knowledge

Demonstrates Codes of Conduct and Professional Standards of the Health Care Professions Council (HCPC) and British Dietetic Association (BDA).

Seeks and uses professional support appropriately. Understands principles of confidentiality. Knowledge of clinical governance and audit.

Demonstrates knowledge of legislation relevant to specialist area.

Technical Work Based Skills

Proficient use of Microsoft Office applications e.g. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook.

Ability to conduct structured research and analysis and to make recommendations based on a wide range of information.

Ability to employ evidence-based monitoring and evaluation approaches and effectively communicate findings and recommendations to decision makers. 

A clean driving Licence and access to a vehicle.
