Job Overview

This is an exciting opportunity to join the Law Officers’ Department as a Paralegal to support the Economic Crime and Confiscation Unit “ECCU” in the preparation of cases for prosecution. The role will require the successful candidate to provide a professional and dynamic support service to the team of Legal Advisers and Investigators. You will be required to demonstrate excellent computer literacy, organisation and time management skills, and the ability to work to deadlines following clear processes and procedures.

Job Purpose

To provide support to the Department’s Legal Advisers or Investigators in the preparation of litigation cases, investigations or advice files, carrying out legal research, statistical analysis and performing administrative and clerical tasks.

Job Specific Outcomes

  • Collects and organises evidence and documentation for legal advisers or investigators to review.

 

  • Carries out research on statute and case law.

 

  • Keeps case files organised and up to date in electronic format using the Court and the Departments’ electronic systems.

 

  • Correspond with client departments and other parties.

 

  • Files documents with the Court and other parties.

 

Qualifications

  • The post holder will hold [minimum 2] A levels, or equivalent, as a minimum educational standard.

 

Knowledge

Essential

  • Knowledge of operating and adjusting to working across a number of different systems, including some specialised.

 

  • Knowledge of providing support in a business administrative capacity.

 

Desirable

  • Understanding of legal terminology as well as a general understanding of the Jersey Court system.

 

  • Understanding of the Jersey system of government.

 

Technical Work Based Skills

  • Research and analytical skills.

 

  • Excellent IT skills, in order to be able to learn and use the particular IT systems of the Department, including the Department’s practice management system and the Courts digital platform and e-discovery software.

 

General Skills / Attributes

  • The post holder must be able to demonstrate a strong work ethic and strong team working skills.

Criteria Relating To Safeguarding
