Job Overview

Jersey Talking Therapies (JTT) are passionate about providing psychological therapies to the population of Jersey and it is an exciting time to join our team as a Trainee High Intensity Cognitive Behaviour Therapist.

Applicants without a recognised core professional training or qualification will be required to submit a completed Knowledge, Skills and Attitudes (KSA) Portfolio at interview. Please note that PWPs cannot be recruited to HI posts or as HI CBT trainees until 2 years post qualification. These 2 years of practice commence only at the date of confirmation of the full PWP qualification by the University, not at the end of the teaching timetable. This standard is monitored nationally by the BABCP. Job Purpose

We are looking for motivated, enthusiastic and skilled individuals who will join our team as a Trainee High Intensity CBT therapist. The role will require you to undertake an intensive one year PGDip Psychological Therapies Practice (High Intensity Cognitive Behavioural Therapy) at the University of Exeter. You will need to attend university as required, which will include up to nine blocks of teaching of up to four days. Most teaching will be two days per week, with the rest of your working week spent providing high intensity CBT assessment and CBT interventions in accordance with NICE guidance. You will receive clinical supervision in the workplace and University to develop your clinical skills.

To be eligible you will have an undergraduate degree or equivalent in a discipline connected to mental health (eg: psychology, neuroscience or a BABCP recognised core professional qualification) or evidence of the ability to study at third year of undergraduate degree (level 6).

Qualifications

Qualified in a mental health profession (eg: Social Work, OT, MH Nurse, Clinical or Counselling Psychologist, Psychiatrist) and have substantial post qualification experience.

Experience of working in a stepped care service for anxiety and depression.

Evidence of foundation level or sustained CPD in CBT.

Evidence of using CBT techniques in practice.

Knowledge

Essential

Has developed knowledge of psychological interventions.

Is able to show evidence of an openness to learning new knowledge and skills.

Excellent verbal and written skills.

An understanding of anxiety and depression and how it may present in Primary Care.

An understanding of the need to use evidence based psychological therapies and and how this relates to the post.

An understanding of the NHS Talking Therapies for Anxiety and Depression programme (previously known as Improving Access to Psychological Therapies [IAPT])

General skills / attributes

An ability to communicate with persons whose first language is not English.

Experience of working with diverse communities within multicultural settings.

Essential

Evidence of considerable relevant clinical experience working with adults suffering with anxiety and depression.

Significant experience of working in mental health services where multi-disciplinary working was part of service delivery.

An ability to manage own caseload and time.

Applicants should demonstrate evidence of interpersonal skills to engage and develop working alliances with colleagues and patients.

Desirable

CBT qualification.

Evidence of foundation level or sustained CPD in CBT.

Experience of working in Primary Care Services.

Applicants should demonstrate evidence of values that are consistent with the NHS Constitution and will be required to complete a brief statement in support of these on their application form.

Availability to attend university as required, which will include up to nine blocks of teaching of up to four days. Most teaching will be two days per week in conjunction with a minimum period of high intensity CBT clinical practice per week.

An ability to integrate training into practice.

An ability to complete the academic and clinical components of the course and meet university requirements to access appropriate training.
