Job Overview

This is an exciting opportunity for a dedicated care assistant with a passion for dermatology. Specilist skills training will be provided to the right candidate, to enable them to deliver independent, senior nurse supported clinics in patch testing, wound care, iontophoresis and phototherapy. 

Job Purpose

The post holder will act as an integral part of the team, supporting registered staff with care planning, delivery and evaluation of care for a specified group of patients/clients with a range of conditions within a recognised clinical area. The post holder will be required to work at an advanced non-registered level within an acute, community or outpatient setting, holding individually accountability for their practice. Practitioners at this level shall be required to seek guidance and support from Registered Nurses/Midwives within the clinical team in respect of key accountabilities

  1. Adheres to the Government of Jersey code of practice for health and social care support workers and applies this to maintain trust and credibility with individuals, carers and colleagues. Confidentiality will be adhered to in accordance with the code of practice and will abide by the Data Protection (Jersey) Law 2018.
  2. The employee actively participates in the appraisal process, identified personal learning needs, and seeks necessary support from their line manager. They maintain an up-to date vocational portfolio, demonstrating continuous professional development and adherence to best practices.
  3. The post holder will deliver the agreed plan and evaluate elements of care in line with the clinical area’s speciality and care provision. Supports and role models the areas ethos of quality care by ensuring the delivery of holistic care to patients under the delegated authority of the registrant. Accurately completes contemporaneous documentation as required and within scope of practice. Communicates clearly and effectively with patients, always ensuring kindness and compassion.
  4. Undertake a range of additional clinical skills within the area, to support the provision of patient care. Works independently, manages own time and caseload, however, will escalate concerns to a registrant when required to ensure patient safety.
  5. Actively participates in the budgetary control for the department, ensuring the appropriate use of resources and equipment and promotes a culture of sustainability. The role may include clerical duties to support care provision such as ordering. Ability to work with digital health systems and Microsoft Office Suite functions

6. Adopts a collaborative approach to care and communicates clearly and effectively with all members of the multidisciplinary team to ensure the patients journey is smooth and seamless. Liaises with external partners surrounding patient care as required.

7. Reports and escalates concerns relating to the patient and environment. Actively participates to the HCS safeguarding priorities in protecting patients from harm. Escalates any health and safety risks within the area, and actions elements as able and within scope.

8. Supports care delivery of those patients who may be receiving enhanced care, including those on SROL’s. Those who are supporting enhanced care must deliver care holistically, engage with the patient ensuring the provision of activities suitable to the patients care needs.

9. Empowers patients to reach their potential, supporting them with their activities of daily living, ensuring independence is maintained during their inpatient stay.

10. Adheres to all Infection Prevention and Control (IPaC) policies and procedures and challenges those who do not adhere.

11. Promotes a culture of openness and transparency ensuring advocating on behalf of others in line with local policy and code of professional practice to enhance patient safety.

12. The post holder will keep fully up to date with developments within own discipline and maintain an adequate awareness of developments in practice and will share knowledge and experience.

13. The post holder will participate in clinical /service audit, disseminate findings and aim to improve care by making relevant changes to practice.

Qualifications

  • Completed RQF level 3
  • GCSE maths and English or equivalent
  • Level 4 related course in health and social care
  • And/Or (depending on area)
  • Leadership and Management vocational award 

Knowledge

  • Thorough understanding of care needs and care related procedures. Able to demonstrate compliance with relevant equipment competencies.
  • Understanding of Health and Safety requirements as well as compliance with statutory training.
  • Undertakes a specific range of advanced clinical duties under registered nurse supervision 

Technical Work Based Skills

  • Excellent verbal and written communications This relates to the skills specific to the job, e.g. language fluency, vehicle license etc. skills as well as interpersonal skills.
  • Good IT skills and ability to use Microsoft Suite and Digital Health Systems. 

General skills / attributes

  • Ability to work in a multi-disciplinary environment.
  • Ability to escalate challenges or concerns to registered professional
  • Able to manage own work load and demonstrate initiative within scope of practise.
  • Ability to support, supervise, assess and act as a role model to junior colleagues and learners in practise 

Experience

4 years of experience in Health care Up-dated vocational and professional portfolio to support experience.
