Job Overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Senior Practitioner to work within the busy and fulfilling crisis and assessment team in Jersey. You will play a crucial role in the clinical leadership of the team and support staff to provide a high-quality service to service users and carers. We are looking for an experienced and enthusiastic practitioner who has a real passion for providing support to promote mental and physical heath, wellbeing and recovery.
Your role will involve supporting the manager in all aspects of managing the services as well as providing clinical leadership and patient care within the team. You will be expected to support other practitioners within the service in development of their skills by role modelling and teaching in assessment and care planning skills. You will be able to lead with a positive and helpful attitude, be an excellent communicator, and demonstrate the ability to motivate the team to deliver high quality and responsive care. You will be qualified as a mental health nurse, a social worker, or an occupational therapist.
The post holder will work as part of a dedicated team carrying out assessments as the ‘front door’ into secondary mental health services, and to assess and support adults who are in mental health crisis.
This is an autonomous role, involving multidisciplinary and multiagency working. It requires specialist knowledge and skills through qualifications in either mental health nursing, social work, or occupational therapy. The post holder should be competent and confident in assessing individuals, and developing collaborative community care plans with the individual and their carers. The post holder will supervise a small number of junior members of staff, and will provide day-to-day advice and guidance as necessary to all members of the team.
- Ability to work autonomously, with the capacity for independent, repsonsible, professional decision making, often whilst under considerable pressure.
- Management, organisational, and administrative skills.
- Ability to take on board complex facts or situations requiring analysis, interpretation and comparison of a range of options in order to arrive at a complex judgement.
- Able to communicate calmly and clearly using a variety of media on highly sensitive and complex issues, including legislation, often in emotive situations.
- Can provide highly specialised advice to colleagues and junior members of staff in relation to client care and maintain and ensure quality standards.
- Able to facilitate the involvement of a range of stakeholders (public and private sector) to deal effectively with complex issues relating to vulnerable service users.
- Able to assess risk, develop management strategies and provide advice and direction to team members when dealing with a range of complex cases.
- Able to develop and implement policy and understand the implications and ramifications for areas outside of their own area of responsibility.
- Highly resilient – good coping mechanisms for dealing with challenging, stressful and emotional situations involving vulnerable children and adults.
This is a shift-working team as we are a 24/7 service.
