Job Overview

 

We are recruiting a Site Advisor for the Solid Waste department at La Collette. The role is customer-focused, and involves ensuring that all waste and recyclables delivered to the Department's facilities are disposed of in the correct manner. 

 

The successful applicant will provide a high level of customer service by providing information and direction in relation to waste disposal and recycling. They will help ensure the safety of all customers, staff and other site users at all of the waste reception sites administered by the Government of Jersey by providing a clean waste reception site and removing waste contamination.

Knowledge and experience required

• Must possess a good standard of education, and have demonstrable experience in a customer focused environment.

• Must be able to communicate verbally in English is essential.

• Good verbal communication skills, common sense, diplomacy, mature and understanding manner as the postholder will often be the first point of contact when dealing with members of the general public.

• Ability to deal with awkward customers, queries and complaints is essential

• Basic computer skills to operate weighbridge systems and/or data logging is essential.

• The ability to learn and understand recycling and waste disposal information, including statistical information which must be accurately passed on to any customers.

• A good level of physical fitness is essential as the job is strenuous and sometimes requires dealing with unpleasant waste including oil, human and animal matter.

• Knowledge of the relevant Health and Safety legislation and practices.

• This role occasionally involves operating company vehicles and telehandlers. As such, preference will be given to applicants who hold a valid driving licence and are willing to obtain the required telehandler certification.
