Job Overview

To clean in a safe and secure manner, maintaining a clean and hygienic environment for all Health and Social Services users in accordance with laid down procedures.

Job Specific Outcomes

Vacuum all floors, carpets and stairs to remove debris and keep clean.

Mop floors and stairs to remove spillage and keep clean and dust free.

Spray clean floors to deep clean, enhance and protect.

Strip floors to remove old polish and sealer.  Seal flooring to protect and enhance.

Change and hang all curtains bag and send dirty to laundry.

Polish stainless steel lifts and keep clean and smear free and wash and dry inside lifts to remove dirt and debris.

Specialised cleaning of infected areas, e.g.: wards, theatres and isolation rooms to ensure the control of infection, to agreed laid down procedures as set by infection and control department.

Clean and dry all bathroom and toilet areas for hygiene and cleanliness. Remove all rubbish sacks and replace with correct coloured bag. Replenish soap, towels and toilet rolls. 1

Dispose of rubbish including emptying of ashtrays and clinical waste to collection point to keep hospital clean and infection free.

Collect stores for cleaning as required.

 Use mechanical equipment to vacuum, spray clean, scrub and clean all areas. All equipment to be cleaned and stored correctly after use.

         

Knowledge and Experience

It is expected that staff will undergo ‘on the job’ type training as follows:

Using, maintaining and storage of all mechanical equipment.

An understanding of chemicals, usage and correct dilution but training will be given.

Control of infection policies -copies are available in all domestic cupboard and must always be adhered to unless otherwise instructed by housekeeper, ward sister or infection control team

Manual handling Training - all staff must undergo training course

Basic Food Hygiene Certificate would be desirable but training with examination will be provided

Any other training courses deemed necessary.

During the course of their duties housekeeping assistants have close contact with patients, staff and visitors, it is therefore imperative that staff must be presentable, have caring and consideration to patients and visitors and are confidential in their daily dealings.

The postholder must have excellent spoken and written communication skills
