Job Overview

The Community Oxygen and Respiratory Service (Clinical Investigation Department) are looking for a highly organised and dynamic Trainee / Specialist Clinical Physiologist, to work as part of a small team and as an independent practitioner, providing education, support and diagnostic services for the Community in Jersey. The post holder will  provide support to the team (deputising for the Senior Clinical Physiologist in their absence) and education and clinical support, including respiratory assessment, to optimise patient care and management. An essential requirement is excellent communication, presentation skills, customer relationship and IT skills. This will involve collaborative working across all health care sectors and the development of pathways, guidelines and education programmes for all aspects of oxygen therapy. Experience in a health environment is desirable, however a training programme will be developed for the right candidate, depending on experience. Job Purpose

As a Specialist Clinical Physiologist you will perform a range of advanced specialist clinical and technical investigations/activities to ensure the department delivers an efficient and effective assessment, diagnostic and education service to maintain and continually
improve direct patient care and management, in line with departmental and organisational goals.

Job Specific Outcomes

  • Perform, assess and evaluate specialised and complex diagnostic procedures within specialist areas. Undertaking responsibility for specific investigations within this area.
  • Analyse, interpret and report specialist / complex investigations, which require interpretation and comparison of a range of options, to diagnose and clinically manage the patient.
  • Work autonomously and independently within occupational and departmental policies / procedures in medium to high risk situations.
  • Communicate effectively complex, sensitive information with other health professionals, staff, patients relative and carers in an empathetic manner where barriers to understanding may exist.
  • Maintain complex and sensitive records in relation to clinical activities and support, clinical audit to satisfy organisation service delivery in line with departmental / national guidelines to satisfy clinical governance.
  • Plan and organise activity / work load of self, prioritising and triaging referrals according to complexity and urgency.
  • Implementation of departmental policies to satisfy local and national guidelines and propose policy and service changes which impact beyond own area.

Statutory Responsibilities

  • Active engagement, participation and compliance with any statutory responsibilities applicable to the role, as amended from time to time.
  • The post holder will have to comply with all the relevant States Laws, such as the Health and Safety at Work (Jersey) Law 1989 and any other associated legislation, standing orders, Financial directions, and other relevant Codes of Practice. In respect of managing
  • the key organisation requirements of programmes and costs through the active management of procurement, approval, financial and administrative procedures.
  • To be responsible for your own Health and safety and that of your colleagues, in accordance with the Health and Safety at Work (Jersey) Law 1989.
  • Work in accordance with the Data protection (Jersey) Law

Qualifications

Essential 

  • BSc Clinical Physiology/Science or equivalent
  • ILS/BLS Certification
  • Registered with the Registration Council for Clinical Physiologists (RCCP) (or at least 4 years’ experience)
  • Accredited member of specialist professional organisation (e.g. SCST, BSE, ARTP)
  • Evidence of attendance and maintenance of CPD in specialist training courses.

 

Desirable 

  • Professional qualifications relevant to specialist area (e.g. ARTP, BSE, HRUK)

Knowledge

Essential

  • In-depth knowledge of specialist investigations and therapeutic interventions acquired by experience, training and CPD to degree level.

Technical / Work-based Skills

Essential

  • Extensive knowledge of specialist diagnostic and therapeutic equipment.
  • Strong computer skills, with working knowledge of computer databases.

Desirable 

  • Proficient in TrakCare, PRISM and Microsoft Office packages

General Skills / Attributes

Essential

  • Ability to work autonomously, accurately, to deadlines and prioritising workloads.
  • Effective written and oral communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to manage complex matters in difficult situations, together with strong persuasion and influencing skills.

 

Desirable 

  • Good presentation skills and/or teaching qualification (PTLLS), fundamental principles of research protocols, statistics and clinical audit.

Experience

Essential 

  • Significant recent experience as a Clinical Physiologist with evidence of working to a specialist level.
