Job Overview

Engineering and Development is a section within the Operations and Transport directorate of the Government of Jersey’s Infrastructure and Environment department. Engineering and Development deliver interesting and exciting projects for various sections within the department; no one day is the same which makes this role exciting. We get involved in all kinds of projects that deliver essential infrastructure for the island of Jersey. This includes highways, coastal defences, transport, solid waste, public realm and parks, sports facilities, and car parks. We recently delivered the Les Quennevais Skatepark and Coronation Park Splashpad projects.


This is an exciting opportunity for someone to join our team. Working as an Engineer, you will be involved in the delivery of capital engineering projects of varying scale and complexity. You will input to these projects through all stages of the project delivery process including design and construction.


You will have the support of senior staff within the team whilst working on a wide variety of projects. You will also have autonomy to manage and deliver aspects of projects you’re responsible for.

The job responsibilities are as follows:


  • Working as part of a team delivering multi-disciplinary engineering projects through the various stages from conception to project handover
  • Assisting with programme and budget management to ensure projects are delivered on time and to budget.
  • Preparing planning applications.
  • Preparing contract documents for construction of engineering schemes in accordance with current design standards.
  • Development of engineering solutions.
  • Delivering projects in accordance with health, safety and environmental legislation and best practice.
  • Assisting with the preparation and administration of professional services, construction and other contracts.
  • Being involved in the supervision of the construction stage of projects.


Required qualifications are as follows:

Incorporated Engineer (IEng) registration with the Engineering Council through a relevant professional body or is on an agreed training scheme and able to demonstrate significant progress to obtain Incorporated Engineer (IEng) status.


Knowledge of the following is required for the job:


  • The latest theory and practices, processes and techniques in a particular engineering discipline or specialism
  • Project management principles and methods
  • Forms of contract including NEC contracts
  • Health, safety and environmental legislation

Technical Work Based Skills

The technical and work based skills required for the job are as follows:


  • Computer literate with ability to operate the Microsoft Office package
  • Ability to use Microsoft project or similar
  • Ability to use technical business applications designed to capture, store, manipulate and analyse technical data and create designs, including computer- aided design
  • Category B Jersey Driving Licence or equivalent
