Job Overview

We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Dermatology Department Manager to lead our specialist service during this one-year secondment or maternity leave cover. The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring the delivery of high-quality, personalised, and evidence-based care for patients with a wide range of dermatological conditions. Working closely with clinical teams, the post holder will ensure safe, efficient, and patient-centred service delivery while driving continuous improvement and supporting strategic development within the department.

 

About the Service

 

Our Dermatology department provides comprehensive assessment, treatment, and education for patients with both acute and chronic skin conditions, including but not limited to:

 

  • Malignant melanoma and non-melanoma skin cancers
  • Psoriasis
  • Eczema (atopic dermatitis)
  • Other inflammatory, autoimmune, and complex dermatological conditions

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the operational performance of the Dermatology service, ensuring high standards of clinical quality, safety, and patient experience.
  • Work collaboratively with consultants, Lead nurse for the Care group, nurses, and the wider multidisciplinary team to coordinate effective and responsive patient pathways.
  • Oversee service planning, workforce management, rota coordination, and efficient resource allocation.
  • Support the development, implementation, and monitoring of evidence-based clinical guidelines and service improvement initiatives.
  • Foster a positive culture of learning, professional development, and excellence within the team.
  • Engage with patients, carers, and stakeholders to ensure services remain patient-centred and aligned with local needs.
  • Manage departmental budgets supported by the lead nurse and contribute to strategic planning, business case development, and potential service expansion opportunities.
  • Provide clinical support to the service, including the ability to undertake and lead nurse-led clinics as required.
