Teacher of Music - JCG - 1 Year Fixed Term Contract

Jersey College for Girls are looking for a passionate and dynamic Teacher of Music for a one year fixed term contract. (September 2025 to August 2026).

 

The successful candidate will be required to deliver a planned programme of learning through which students acquire the knowledge, understanding and skills required to master the subject, you will also  contribute to the extra-curricular life of the College. This is an excellent opportunity for a highly motivated and inspirational classroom practitioner to join our thriving Music Department.

Job Purpose

To provide high quality learning ensuring high levels of student engagement and success.

Participate in providing and updating teaching resource materials and maintain records of these resources to meet the needs of staff and pupils.

Principal Accountabilities 1 of 4

  • Make learning enjoyable for their students
  • Use a variety of strategies to ensure effective delivery of the music curriculum.
  • Have experience with music composing/notator programmes (currently we use Sibelius)
  • Support curricular initiatives and extended curricular activities
  • Assist in the creation and review of appropriate documentation such as schemes of learning and policies.

Principal Accountabilities 2 of 4

  • Plan effectively to ensure that all individual student learning needs are met.
  • Advise the Head of Department on issues relating to the learning and teaching of Music and ensure effective resource management.
  • Follow departmental policy for effective monitoring, marking and tracking of student progress and use assessment data to ensure all students have individual targets and are supported in all areas of their work.
  • Ensure learning and teaching programmes take account of the latest developments in education and evaluate their impact upon teaching and learning, ensuring that appropriate use is made of up to date technology.
  • Attend and contribute to relevant departmental meetings and take an appropriate share of the administrative duties of the department.

Principal Accountabilities 3 of 4

  • Contribute to the managing of Polyphony, our in-house Music provision.
  • Support the online presence of music, including College Café, Live Lounge and assemblies.
  • Assist in advising students on the suitability of courses and assist in co-ordinating the transition between GCSE and A level and KS3 to GCSE.
  • Undertake regular reviews of teaching practice and accompanying documentation as determined by the evaluation process of the school and department.
  • Contribute to the extra-curricular life of the College, supporting ensembles and accompanying as and when appropriate.

  • Contribute to parents’ meetings, the mentoring programme, staff teams, and reports and references for students as appropriate.
  • Ensure all health and safety regulations are adhered to both on and off site.
  • Be willing to undertake appropriate professional development and training as needed to keep at the leading edge of learning and teaching. e.g. subject developments and new qualifications or specifications.
  • Undertake any other task as may be reasonably requested by the Principal.

Skills and Knowledge

  • A passion for music
  • A relevant degree and or appropriate specialist qualification in Music.
  • The ability to motivate and engage students with an imaginative approach to teaching and learning and demonstrate evidence of an inclusive approach to music education and a wide variety of musical styles.
  • An ability to take responsibility and a proactive approach to problem solving
  • A keen interest in supporting student learning
  • The ability to work collaboratively, to model good practice and maintain high levels of confidentiality.
  • An ability to be able to demonstrate a strong understanding and commitment to the aims and ethos of Jersey College for Girls
