Job Purpose

The Team Leader/LSA role has a very important and integral function in our school. The main purpose of the role is to work with the Director of inclusion and the LSA team to work with teachers as part of a professional team to support teaching and learning for all pupils. The roles provide both learning support to pupils who need particular help to overcome barriers to learning, such as those with moderate, severe, profound and multiple learning difficulties and/or behavioural, social, communication, sensory or physical disabilities, as well as supporting the LSA team and helping be a guide to them to ensure a smooth and seamless experience is given to pupils and teachers alike. This role adds value to adaptive teaching and learning opportunities planned and directed by the teachers which supports the development of independent learning skills associated with improved learning outcomes

 

Please note, this role is Term Time only and 30 hours per week. 

Statutory Responsibilities

  • To work and help manage the Learning Support Team in supporting and including students with learning difficulties in mainstream classes and individual programmes.
  • To actively undertake LSA work as well as being a team leader.  
  • Have formal and informal meetings with teachers to contribute to planning lessons and modifying activities/resources. To prepare students beforehand for a task or new topic, pre-teaching key vocabulary.
  • Work differentiated activities with identified groups. Carry out structured student observation and give feedback to the teacher/SENCO. 
  • Be involved in the formulation of ILPs and the implementation of individual learning and subject targets. 
  • Work as part of the Learning Support Team, being flexible and responding to changes in provision of support as directed by the SENCO and assisting with various administrative duties within the Department and work as part of a team in relation to individual students, liaising with other staff as appropriate. Support the implementation of School policies, including those relating to confidentiality, Data Protection, Child Protection and Health and Safety. 
  • Establish positive relationships and liaise with outside agencies and parents as appropriate in order to support achievement and progress for all students.
  • Participate in training and other learning activities as required and have formal and informal meetings with teachers to contribute to planning lessons and modifying activities/resources.
  • Prepare students beforehand for a task or new topic, pre-teaching key vocabulary. work as part of the Learning Support Team, being flexible and responding to changes in provision of support as directed by the SENCO and assisting with various administrative duties within the Department.

Knowledge

The successful candidate will have a proven track record as and LSA or in an equivalent role. It is key that applicants, and successful candidates have prior experience as an LSA or in an equivalent role.

  • Commitment to improving the lived experience of pupils and their families.
  • A need to show compassion, be focused, helpful and reflective.
  • Ability to keep calm in sometimes very difficult circumstances and the ability to intervene when necessary.
