Job Overview
St Martin’s School is looking to appoint a flexible, enthusiastic and hard-working Learning Support Assistant and Breakfast Club Supervisor to be part of our friendly school community. A Team Leader/Senior position is available for candidates with the right experience. The successful candidate will be a good communicator, is committed to an inclusive education and has the skills to work with a range of differing needs. They must be able to work as part of a team as well as under their own initiative. Experience in supporting children in a school setting and being experienced and knowledgable about a range of Special Educational Needs is desirable. The post can include running the breakfast club, which would increase the weekly hours to 37 hours a week (7.30am – 3.10 pm) term time only.

Job Purpose
The Team Leader/LSA role has a very important and integral function in our school. The main purpose of the role is to work with the SENCo and the LSA team to work with teachers as part of a professional team to support teaching and learning for all pupils. The roles provide both learning support to pupils who need particular help to overcome barriers to learning, such as those with moderate, severe, profound and multiple learning difficulties and/or behavioural, social, communication, sensory or physical disabilities, as well as supporting the LSA team and helping be a guide to them to ensure a smooth and seamless experience is given to pupils and teachers alike. This role adds value to adaptive teaching and learning opportunities planned and directed by the teachers which supports the development of independent learning skills associated with improved learning outcomes.
Knowledge
The successful candidate will have a proven track record as and LSA or in an equivalent role. It is key that applicants, and successful candidates have prior experience as an LSA or in an equivalent role.
Successful candidates will be able to demonstrate the following criteria:
- Understand Safeguarding including awareness of confidentiality and data protection principles.
- Ability to attend to the pupils’ individual needs, and implement related personal programmes, including social, health, physical and welfare matters.
- Care for sick, distressed and injured pupils in line with policies and procedures.
- Resilience and a willingness to learn and develop their practice including self - study.
- Commitment to improving the lived experience of pupils and their families.
- A need to show compassion, be focused, helpful and reflective.
- Ability to keep calm in sometimes very difficult circumstances and the ability to intervene when necessary.
