Job Overview
The Fire Safety department in States of Jersey Fire and Rescue Service (SJFRS) are looking for new team members who are ready to grow and develop in their Fire Safety career. We are looking for individuals with current experience in fire safety and would have operational experience at supervisory level (ICL1). Management experience is required as well as an aptitude to learn and grow into the role.

Job Purpose
- To act as the Subject Matter expert and provide technical advice on fire safety and protection matters to statutory bodies, planners and architects, other building professionals and members of the public, attend internal and external meetings.
- Using expert knowledge of fire safety, inspect sites and buildings during and post construction to advise on fire safety matters.
- Inspect and report on existing occupied in scope buildings ranging from low to high complexity, to advise on fire safety matters.
- Remain fully informed of fire safety advancements and integrate changes to policies and development of competence across the Fire Safety department. Lead the implementation of statutory and policy updates across the Fire Safety department.
- Prepare and submit responses to local planning and building applications relative to ‘in scope’ proposed developments/alterations.
- Work collaboratively in order to deliver a learning culture focused upon improvement and high performance.

As well as being a Fire Safety expert, you will be an operational Watch Commander on the Flexi Duty System (FDS).
As a FDS Watch Commander, you are required to provide additional support at operational incidents. You are responsible for and being ready to resolve fire and rescue operational incidents within a wide range of emergency situations with the aim to save and preserve endangered life. Investigating and reporting on events to inform future practice. Watch Commanders lead on the development of engagement and enforcement activity and policy within the community to prevent and protect. Consulting with individuals, groups and the wider community to provide information, advice and guidance to improve health, safety and wellbeing to prevent emergencies.
Person specification
Qualifications
Successful completion and ongoing revalidation of Incident Command at Level 1 (SfJ/QCF level 3).
- Level 4 Diploma in Fire Safety (Inspector)
- ICL1 (revalidation within last 12-18 months)
- QCF level 3 qualification in Management / Leadership (equivalent of CMI Level 3 or NFCC SLDP).
- Institution of Fire Engineers level 3 diploma.
- Emergency Fire Appliance Driving (equivalent to SFJ Level 3 Award in Emergency Response Driving High-Speed),
- Managing Safely certificate (IOSH)
Successful completion of the following are also desirable:
- Knowledge and experience in HTM: Healthcare Premises
- Level 5 Diploma in Fire Engineering Design
- Level 5 management and leadership (equivalent to CMI level 5) and, or; NFCC MLP
- Has or working towards ICL L2

- Experience working in Fire Safety.
- Managing and developing a team.
Desirable

Experience in the regulation of fuel and explosives storage facilities / installations. Ensuring compliance with safety regulations.
