Job Overview
To manage and deliver a range of youth work opportunities that promote the personal, political and social, development needs of young people. Delivery is carried out in a variety of settings e.g., street-based work, youth centres, schools, cafes and mobiles etc. This is referred to as the "project". The Youth worker is linked grade of WFM C/D. Youth workers who are newly appointed into the role with no JNC recognised qualification will be a WFM C.

Statutory Responsibilities
The postholder will have to comply with all relevant States Laws, such as the Health and Safety at Work (Jersey) Law 1989 and any other associated legislation.
To work in accordance with the Data Protection (Jersey) Law; This role is politically restricted.
The jobholder is not permitted to undertake political activity involving standing for election to the States or as a Parish Constable, or publicly supporting someone who is standing for election or playing a public part in any political manner
Job Specific Outcomes
• To ensure the project’s youth work delivery is relevant to the purpose of the project, needs of young people and is consistent with the Youth Service Curriculum Outcomes Framework
• To establish and maintain relationships and networks with relevant stakeholders and contacts within the local parish/community
• To support the recruitment, management of and evaluate the needs of Sessional and Volunteer staff including facilitating short and long-term training plans. This will also involve the recruitment and induction of staff and volunteers to both individual projects and to the Youth Service
• To identify, create and facilitate both formal and informal learning opportunities/sessions for young people. This will be achieved using a wide range of delivery methods and resources
• To carry out administrative duties associated with the project. This includes financial aspects, which need to be presented to Advisory Groups, JYS (Jersey Youth Service) Leadership Team, the Principal Youth Officer, external partners and the Government of Jersey as required
• To manage resources allocated to the project ensuring that they are effectively utilised and administered including, fittings, vehicles, equipment
• To identify and develop, with young people, potential projects to improve the building facilities. Where possible, encourage and support participation and involvement in Advisory Committee, other community forums,other professional organisations and to research the needs of young people and undertake any reviews that are necessary to produce a development plan for the project and neighbourhood
• To work in collaboration and flexibly with colleagues on an Island-wide basis. This will include providing cover and support of service delivery, active participation in service meetings, or coordinating projects and delivery of training and dissemination of good practice .

Person specification
Appointees to this role will be required to adhere to and perform their duties in line with the standards identified in the States of Jersey tier 6 core accountabilities attributes and behaviour indicators.
Qualifications
Hold or be willing to achieve a professional youth work qualification in Youth & Community Studies or equivalent which is recognised by the J.N.C.
A valid First Aid at Work Qualification
Knowledge
Knowledge of the diverse range of opportunities that can be offered to the young people as part of the Youth Work Curriculum
Technical Work Based Skills
A working knowledge of IT packages (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint)
Knowledge of health and safety issues to include the ability to carry out risk assessments.
A valid and full driving licence.
Experience
Minimum of 12 months experience in a youth work, educational or equivalent setting.
Personal Attributes

Confident decision maker.
Organisational and time management skills. Ability to develop innovative approaches to change and service delivery.
Ability to lead, motivate and manage teams to facilitate achievement of high delivery and performance and manage poor behaviour.
