What are apprenticeships?
Our paid apprenticeships offer a blend of practical, on-the-job training alongside formal learning. They provide an excellent opportunity for you to gain valuable experience in the workplace, whilst also studying for a professional qualification that is funded by us. Apprenticeships typically last from 1-3 years, depending on the area you choose.

Traineeships
Our traineeships provide an exciting opportunity to begin a career in your chosen field.

What are traineeships?+
Our Traineeships provide experiential on the job training in a variety of roles to enable you to learn knowledge, skills and behaviours needed for a particular job. They provide real-world experience in your chosen field, allowing you to learn whilst you earn. You will be on a trainee progression plan, which may involve completing courses or qualifications relevant to the job or undertaking other development opportunities. Our traineeships usually last 1-2 years.
What areas do our traineeships cover?+
We offer traineeships across many different areas in the Jersey Public Service. The amount of career paths to choose from is huge, and whichever area you pick will enable you to have a positive impact on Islanders. From medicine to marketing, engineering to building maintenance as well as digital, IT, accounting and customer service, we can accommodate all interests.

Internships
An internship placement with the Jersey Public Service could be the start of an extraordinary career.
Our internships offer a paid period of work experience and a great opportunity for you to gain an insight into an area of the public service.
What are internships?+
Our internships are a paid period of work experience, usually completed over 6 weeks during the summer. They offer a chance for you to gain industry-specific skills and practical knowledge. They provide real-world exposure to the working environment and allow you to get a feel for your chosen field.
What areas do our internships cover? +
We offer internships in a variety of different areas across the Jersey Public Service. The diversity of career paths available is enormous and the ability to make an impact is tangible. From medicine to marketing, engineering to building maintenance, as well as digital, IT, accounting and customer service, we can accommodate all interests.

What are work placements?+
Our work placements are usually longer-term arrangements that allow you to gain a more in-depth understanding of your chosen field. These placements may be part of an academic programme, or a professional development initiative and they aim to provide you with practical skills and experience. These can also be undertaken during a gap year.
Who should apply for work placements?+
If you are studying at college or are at university, our bespoke work placements are a great way to put your skills into practice in the work environment.
Equally, if you are a school leaver, a recent graduate, someone looking for a career change, or looking to return to work after a break, our bespoke work placements could provide you with an opportunity to gain new skills and experience.

What is Trident work experience, and do you offer bespoke placements?+
The Jersey Public Service is proud to support the Trident work experience programme. This is a programme that all Jersey Secondary Schools take part in during Year 10, and usually lasts for 2 weeks. It is a unique opportunity to experience working life while still at school and it is a fantastic way to test out potential future career paths.
