Pay and allowances

We offer a competitive starting salary which allows you to progress and develop through our pay scales.

Salaries are subject to our annual pay awards.

Pension benefits

Pension benefits

Currently we have two pension schemes - the Public Employees’ Pension Scheme (PEPS) for most of our employees, and the Jersey Teachers’ Superannuation Fund (JTSF) for teachers

  • The benefits vary slightly under each scheme and are subject to the relevant legislation
  • Both of our schemes include the option to boost your pension by increasing your own contributions
  • Should you become permanently ill we also have ill-health retirement benefits, death-in-service benefits, and survivors and/or dependents pensions

Family friendly benefits

Family friendly benefits

To support our employees' family life, we offer the following benefits:

  • 20 weeks paid parental leave, which can be spread out over a 2-year period, as well as the option to take a further 32 weeks unpaid leave
  • If both parents are employed by the Jersey Public Service you can, if you choose, transfer up to 14 weeks paid parental leave to one another
  • Access to 'special leave' to deal with certain other unplanned special circumstances

Leave and holidays

Our employees are entitled to the following paid leave annually:

  • A starting allowance of between 21 to 31 days of paid annual leave, depending on entry level and pay group, with the allowance rising with length of service. Please refer to specific job advertisements and/or terms and conditions for annual leave entitlements that may apply in each case. 
  • Employees are also entitled to the usual 9 days of Bank Holidays per year
  • General paid leave for volunteering, with additional paid leave for employees volunteering for Jersey Overseas Aid
  • Employees can request up to 10 days' additional leave per year through our 'buying additional leave' scheme

We offer support and study leave for accredited learning and development relevant to your role.

We also offer financial support for relevant professional training or exams.

In addition, we have various in-house training programmes and learning opportunities available to our employees, which includes access to high-quality courses in leadership and management skills, as well as specific skills development.

Annual bus scheme

Annual bus scheme

Our Jersey Public Service bus scheme is managed by Liberty Bus and allows our employees to save on the cost of an annual bus pass.

Our employees can allocate part of their salary to pay for a discounted bus pass for 12 months.

We have partnered with a variety of organisations to offer goods and services to our employees at discounted rates. These services include health, sport and fitness subscriptions, and travel and transport services.

Employees also have access to networks for support and wellbeing.

We offer our employees an opportunity to take a career break. These careers breaks can be for a minimum of 3 months and a maximum of 12 months in one continuous period.

We offer a comprehensive relocation and support package for new eligible employees moving to Jersey for a licensed role.

We know this is a challenging move, therefore we want to make relocation as easy as possible for you. We will provide you with practical, tailored relocation support, along with a competitive salary and access to benefits.
