The Department is led by His Majesty’s Attorney General and His Majesty’s Solicitor General and has the following objectives which are carried out by the Law Officers and their specialist teams:

• providing legal advice to the Government, the States Assembly and the Crown; 
• providing an independent public prosecution service for the Island; 
• protecting the interests of the Crown and Government in civil proceedings; 
• helping to safeguard children and adults at risk; 
• enabling the forfeiture and confiscation of the proceeds of crime;
• assisting overseas law enforcement agencies;
• carrying out the statutory and customary law duties of the Attorney General.

The Department is also Lexcel accredited, having achieved accreditation following each annual review since 2019. The Lexcel assessor singles out the Lexcel Standard of People Management within the Department as an Area of Good Practice, commenting: “The culture in the department appears to portray an exceptional level of team support.
