Viscount's Department

Viscount's Department

Employees within the Viscount’s Department are proud of the important role they play in delivering justice for the Island.

The Viscount and the Deputy Viscount are judicial officers appointed by the Bailiff to carry out the executive functions of Jersey’s Courts and of the States Assembly and other specific court-related functions.  The Viscount's Department is a non-ministerial department which supports the Viscount and the Deputy Viscount in carrying out these functions and activities.

The Department has a wide range of duties which cover everything from the day-to-day enforcement of Court Orders (including debt judgments and evictions), to administering Jersey’s désastre regime, to supporting the Coroner’s Service and organising juries for assize trials. This broad remit means the Viscount’s Department offers varied career opportunities.

If you are looking for a unique career, we would encourage you to contact the department to find out more about what opportunities are available.
