Job Overview
The Governance Midwife provides expert professional leadership across Jersey Maternity Services, ensuring robust clinical governance, risk management, and continuous quality improvement within a unique island healthcare system. Working closely with the Care Group Quality and Safety Governance Manager, the post holder will play a central role in supporting the delivery of safe, effective, and compassionate care for women, babies, and families.
As Governance Midwife, you will work within a close‑knit, multidisciplinary maternity team, collaborating with midwives, obstetricians, neonatologists, bereavement services, screening teams, and corporate governance colleagues. The relationships you build will be fundamental to embedding a positive safety culture, strengthening learning from incidents, and ensuring governance processes translate into meaningful improvements in care.
Jersey Maternity Services operate within a small island setting, offering a distinctive and rewarding governance environment. The Governance Midwife works across the maternity pathway, supporting services that provide antenatal, intrapartum, postnatal, neonatal, bereavement, and screening care to island families.
This role offers the opportunity to have a visible, hands‑on impact on quality and safety. The scale of the service allows close engagement with frontline teams, rapid implementation of change, and strong multidisciplinary collaboration. You will be central to ensuring that governance systems are proportionate, effective, and responsive, while aligned with Government of Jersey requirements, national standards, and UK best practice.
This is a role where your expertise, leadership, and commitment to safety will directly influence outcomes for women and babies, and where learning and improvement are genuinely embedded into everyday practice.
