An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated, autonomous reporting Sonographer to join our hospital's Radiology Department on the beautiful island of Jersey.
The successful applicant must have current experience in scanning and reporting a wide range of ultrasound examinations to include as a minimum: abdominal, gynae (including TV), small parts and basic vascular. Also some paediatrics and those requiring complex care, but not obstetric.
All our teams members are fully immersed in audit and teaching. There will be an on call commitment.

Salary ranges from £68,437 to £83,790 depending on experience and skills, with a generous pension contribution.

Provide highly specialised knowledge and professional clinical skills as an autonomous practitioner relating to ultrasound examinations on a wide spectrum of patients, including paediatrics and those requiring complex care.
The post holder will independently report for their specialty and provide advice to tertiary referrers in specialist circumstances and participate in an on-call service for out of hours cover.
Job Specific Outcomes 1 of 2
Undertake a wide range of ultrasound examinations according to HCS and national protocols and give a diagnosis as an independent autonomous practitioner. Identify abnormal test results, provide a written report, and refer to the appropriate pathway.
Critically analyse and interpret history, presenting symptoms, physical findings, and diagnostic information to develop the differential diagnosis. Performing diagnostic examinations to a high competency level, as agreed by the clinical lead.
Use highly developed specialised knowledge to take informed consent from patients by informing them of the benefits, risks, complications and effects of the intended examination, and any alternative treatments.
Lead highly complex clinical situations, recognising and initiating pathways in patients experiencing deterioration in clinical condition both physical & psychological.
Communicate highly complex and highly sensitive information to patients and their relatives at the appropriate level of understanding about issues surrounding their medical condition. Overcoming any communication barriers, demonstrating excellent levels of verbal and non verbal communication skills.

Provide a Sonographer-led service for patients, practising autonomously to provide a report to the referrer for complex patients with acute, chronic and life-limiting disease. Discuss image interpretation findings with clinicians to ensure optimum outcome for the patient at time of attendance to include recognition of acute pathology.
Develop and maintain professional networks, actively seeking opportunities to promote, publicise and disseminate the Advanced Practitioner Sonographer role.
Provide clinical leadership, expert practice and advanced knowledge, integrating research evidence into practice and contributing to/leading on research in their clinical field. As well as act as a resource and teach on under/post-graduate educational programmes relevant to the role.
Challenge colleagues in specific aspects of practice contributing to the support and development of others through collaborative working, planning and delivering interventions that meet the learning and development needs of the wider team.
Qualifications
BSc (Hon) Radiography or equivalent Degree in a healthcare or science subject Post graduate Diploma in Medical Ultrasound (CASE accredited) or DMU, or equivalent. Master’s degree in advanced clinical practice; the curricula must include the four pillars of advanced practice. Minimum 2 years’ experience at senior level.
Desirable
Supervision/leadership/mentoring training or qualification Recognised teaching and assessing Course Speciality specific experience e.g., MSK, vascular, paediatrics.
Knowledge
Knowledge of local and national healthcare agendas/strategy and policies and how they relate to the specific service.
Understand the legal, ethical and professional responsibilities and accountability with regards to advanced level, autonomous practice.
Significant post registration experience where autonomous working at advanced level has been acquired in the speciality areas or a relate areas where advanced skills could be transferrable.
Understand the impact of advanced practice roles on service delivery and their contribution to the multidisciplinary team.
In depth service specific knowledge which underpins advanced level practice.
The postholder must display expert level knowledge of the Governance and Risk frameworks required to underpin the delivery of safe patient care. Experience of leading evidenced based service improvement and innovation through service/practice development initiatives, audit or research.

Excellent interpersonal /communication skills with a variety of media and at all levels. This includes the ability to communicate in difficult and challenging environments. Significant post qualification working experience in order to have developed consolidated practice to lead the staff teams.

Experience of designing and delivering training to colleagues at all levels
